“Sufficient for the Budget Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011 via mobile

This location has both Apartments and standard Hotel rooms. We snapped up the hotel room for an absolute steal ($65 per night) and at that price we were not expecting much. True, this site is a good 6 kms out of Cairns Central and it is only a short distance off the highway so it not gonna be your cuppa tea if you are without a car or looking to stroll home after a few frothies in the city. But if you can score a tidy deal it is well worth it with ample on site free parking, friendly hosts, lovely swimming pool and private rooms. Would reccommend to the highly budget conscious traveller or backpacker in need of respite from sleeping in a van

We stayed here with 2 children under 5 and a 14yr old. The apartment was excellent with all amenities one would need for a very comfortable stay. From the moment we first arrived we found ALL the staff very friendly and helpful, The management and staff were there to assist with any questions we had and assisted with all enquiries. They even put the 'teddies' the children had, on the pillows when they cleaned the rooms and changed the linnen, it is the small things that count. Also noted a birthday from drivers licences and said ''HAPPY Birthday'' wow that is going the extra step.

Yes the apartments are a little out of town, but buses stop at the front door. (We had a hire car so made life very easy for us). The owners are warm and friendly and extremely helpful. We had a 2 bdrm apartment and it was huge. All facilities in room (cook, wash, dry etc) and two bathrooms. The only downside was there are no fly screens on the windows, however, we always take mozzie coils/plug ins with us on hols so were prepared for this. Our room faced the main road into Cairns but with the windows closed, we didn't hear any noise (I think the windows are double glazed). As a family travelling with our 11 yr old son, I would return to these apartments again before some of the others we stayed in further north.

Situated on the very busy and noisy Bruce Highway, 10 to 15 minutes drive from downtown, don't stay here inless you have a car as the apartments are on the edge of town and adjacent to fast-food outlets, car dealerships etc.

The apartments are very spacious and utterly charmless. Fluorescent lighting in most rooms doesn't help, a few table-lamps would really help. Our kitchen had no oven, just a microwave, so cooking is definitely restricted. There's an electric frypan for those who are desperate for a cooked breakfast.

Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are adequate and fairly clean, although why to these motel owners not realize that a build-up of lime/gunk on a shower head can ruin an otherwise OK experience?

Reception employees/managers were rather edgy. On remarking that the room was noisy, we were told quite bluntly that we were in a city, what did we expect.....that it was budget accommodation and we should have booked better accommodation if we didn't want noise. All probably true, but there are things you should think rather than say, particularly if you are a motel operator. Otherwise, you come across as rude and arrogant.

If you have a car, this is the perfect place to stay. It will save you a heap of money and it really doesn't lack anything. There are plenty of restaraunts nearby and both a pub and a McDonald's in walking distance. My room opened up to a small yard where you can smoke a cigarette or have a beer if you want, or you can just watch the birds. The owners were really nice and went out of their way to help. I left an item behind and they took care of it for me until I could get back.

If you want a fancy hotel, this isn't it, but if you want everything you need for comfort and quality in Cairns, this is the sweet spot. I'd go there again for sure.

We had an 8-night Stay in Cairns Reef Apartment in Dec 2008 and were hosted by Jaime and Liz Thompson, who are New Zealanders. Believe me, they will take care of everything for you.

For a start, they have a tie-up with a car rental company and we got fantastic rates. The room is also very clean, spacious and quiet and it comes with a bath tub too.

However, nothing beats the friendliness of the hosts who painstakingly helped us plan and book our daily itinerary at no commision. They would also help us map out our driving trails (water-fall circuit etc.....)

I would strongly recommend everyone to stay here if you are visiting Cairns.

Absolutely fabulous property.
Very friendly staff, location on main road into town, very quiet, don't hear a thing. Rooms very spacious with everything you could need. Pool area lovely, with bbq available to use if want to. Would definately reccommend to anyone to stay here, excellent value for money, and very clean.
