“Great hotel, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

I stayed at the hotel on both ends of a holiday in north Queensland. It's great to be able to walk into a hotel and be greeted with a big smile. The hotel very kindly gave us an upgrade to a suite on the first night we were there and it was a gorgeous room on the executive floor on the corner of the hotel.

Service was first class and very friendly. An excellent hotel in a great location.

Hotel in excellent position. First class staff, very friendly and the smiling face of the doorman really made you feel valued and welcome. Good good and excellent service.
The only downside was the plants or lack of them on the upper floor doorway balconies.planters were empty or had sad dying plants.
Definitely recommend it and would stay there again.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for the review of Hilton Cairns via Tripadvisor. I’m pleased to read that you ‘ve enjoyed your time here us and found the team welcoming and friendly – such an important part of a hotel experience. I note your comments regarding the plants and advise that there is a re-planting program underway currently that will see internal gardens return to full bloom. Thank you for the recommendation and I hope we can welcome you back again soon.

We generally stay at the Pullman Reef Casino for special occassions - it's a true 5 star hotel and one does feel rather special when staying there. My husband wanted to try something different, so we stayed at the Hilton this time.
From the check in, although speedy, there was no warm welcome and the receptionist seemed to be merely tolerating us, especially after I questioned the cost of parking (not included in the room cost - $9 per exit). Internet is also charged additionally 55 cents per minute or $30 per day.
The bed was too hard and uncomfortable and pillows were filled with feathers and flatten completely whereever you rest your head. No breakfast & no paper included. Small details were lacking, for instance, there was only one red wine glass and one white wine glass in a king spa room, no napkins.
The toiletries were nice and they did provide slippers and robes, we were on the 8th floor with a nice view of the city and The Esplenade .

Room Tip: Rooms on the Northern side have the best view

Dear Visitor,

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel, I’m sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Bedding is very much a personal preference and as such we offer a ‘Hilton Pillow menu’ where guests can choose between a range of soft, hard and non allergenic pillows for their comfort. I’m pleased you enjoyed the upmarket Peter Thomas Roth range of toiletries and the view of the surrounding mountains and city.

We had 2 rooms here and were very impressed with the service in particular. The check in and check out were smooth and all the staff were very helpful.

The hotel has a great open feeling with all rooms provided a balcony. We had the ones facing the river which was a beautiful sight.

The downstairs cafe/restaurant is extremely modern with glass glazing so you can enjoy the great views from an airconditioned environment.

The hotel also sets up an eating venue outdoors on the waterfront which gets lively in the evenings with live music.

The pool was quite average though.

Room Tip: Try for the river view rooms

Dear Discostuu,

Thank you for the review via Tripadvisor for Hilton Cairns. I’m pleased to read that you’ve enjoyed your Hilton experience especially the service, views and room design. We have a number of great dining options, from Hanuman Restaurant specialising in Thai and Nonya cuisine to our alfresco restaurant Mondo Bar and Grill. Mondo is unique to Cairns as being the only venue right on the waterfront – a great place to sit back, relax and meet the locals. I hope we can welcome you back to Hilton Cairns on your next trip North.

Yours sincerely,

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

I stayed here with my 10 yo son for two nights of our holiday on 1st and 2nd Oct 2012. Any concerns I had about noisy construction work based on earlier reviews were unfounded - we saw and heard nothing in the way of building work. We stayed on the 6th floor in a double deluxe room (622), and were delighted with this, as we'd asked for a quieter room. The rooms are carpeted and well furnished but a little on the small side for anything longer than a night or two. Then again the beds are divine - soft without being saggy. The view of the harbour was lovely, but if you've been spoiled as we have by living near near one of the world's most picturesque working harbours (Newcastle), you will find it peaceful to the point of being sleepy! You can imagine then that being woken by the sound of other guests' room doors closing behind them as they leave at 6.30 and 7 am isn't ideal - but this is the Hilton, and all the doors are heavy security doors that basically can't be shut without causing a loud click that reverberates off the tiled outdoor walkways to the rooms. Que cera. I just went back to sleep. The building is older and curiously shaped - the rooms are housed in two huge ellipses which join at each end like a pair of lips, surrounding a large central open-air atrium and lift shaft. From around the third floor up, on stepping outside your room you look down onto a glass greenhouse roof. From this end of the building parrots and lorikeets coukd be seen flitting around in nearby palms in the morning. The lifts are fast and smooth, and while we didnt swim in the pool it looked great. All in all this place delivers the luxury you expect from Hilton, but with a Cairns flavour. Be aware that concierge services for car parking at $15 a day really aren't optional, as if you want to park the car yourself they will bill you $9 every time you exit the car park. Internet access is $30 a day or part thereof with no option for anything cheaper, but there are three free pc's in the business services room. I couldn't get the free wireless in the lobby to work and was told the modem could only cope with around 10 connections at any given time. This is a big hotel, so dont stay here if walking any distance is a problem for you. The least of my annoyances was that it's hard to eat economically here if you want a balanced meal - Hanuman"s food is absolutely superb, but too dear for every night; while I wasn't overly impressed with Mondo"s menu downstairs - they had dishes in the $15 - 20 range, but they weren't balanced unless you ordered salad too. Having said that the room service meals were huge and big enough for two moderate eaters, and the kitchen staff like everyone else were extremely obliging. Overall you can't go far wrong staying here if you're flexible on Internet and food prices.

Room Tip: A higher room at the front left side should be quiet with a good view.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review, I’m sure fellow travellers will appreciate the balance and detail. It’s great to read that you and your son have enjoyed your stay here with us. I’m sure it’s not easy keeping a 10 year old entertained and that’s where the Tropical North has so much to offer. From the Great Barrier Reef to our local lagoon and lots of other activities in between. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you both back again sometime when you need some time in the sunshine.

Yours sincerely,

This was the first time we stayed at a Hilton Hotel. The service was fantastic and location was perfect. The concierge was very helpful with regard to helping us park the van and trailer. The only downside was the room service - the meals were cold. When I checked out I mentioned that and the staff at reception gave me a discount for the room service. That is what I call service. The room itself could do with a revamp to meet the high standard of the Hilton chain. The buffet breakfast was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. When I did the booking it was suggested I pay a little extra to get a bigger room and a better view. Not sure if that actuallly happened because the view from our room was over the construction site. Hope to stay at the Hilton again in the future in another city.

Room Tip: Ocean view in the centre of the hotel on the top floor. Get a price including breakfast because it...

Dear Katrina,

Thank you for the Tripadvisor review for Hilton Cairns. I’m pleased you and the family have enjoyed your stay with us. Your situation of arriving by vehicle and towing a trailer is not uncommon as we often have guests who are driving to the Tropical North and beyond to the outback of the Cape York Peninsula. The hotel is well set up for such visitors and we will always find a space for the vehicles. The construction site you mention is the local Port Authority completing work on their $20m Foreshore Redevelopment – it’s on the Southern end of the hotel and still provides guests with a picturesque view over the waterways and surrounding mountains. The actual construction work is limited to landscaping works and has no impact on our guest’s stay. You should consider joining our global loyalty program, Hilton Honors, which allows guests to accumulate points every time they stay and to redeem these points for upgrades and complimentary stays plus a whole range of other benefits. I hope we can welcome you back to the Tropical North when next you travel this way.

Yours sincerely,

I stayed at the Hilton Cairns for 1 night in September 2012. Although check-in time is 2pm, I was at the hotel at 9.30am (as my lift from Mission Beach was very early) and I was able to go straight up to my room as it was ready. A beautiful room on the 9th floor with wonderful views over the inlet. Everything extremely clean and well decorated, everything working and super comfortable! The staff were all very courteous and friendly, I will definitely return! Thank you Hilton Cairns.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the inlet offer lovely views.
