“Great location with tropical feel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We had one night in Cairns before heading up to Palm Cove in late September 2012. We had a room with two double beds that had been nicely modernised and had a good amount of space. We had a sea view, which was a nice surprise and were given a late check-out which helped us manage our toddler's sleep. The pool was great, very quiet and there were no issues providing as many pool towels as we needed. The hotel was located right on the esplanade, close to restaurants and the really great waterfront that Carins has. There is a fantastic park about five minutes north along the esplanade for kids. The quibble I would raise with the room was that the bathroom was tiny. Hard to fit more than one person in there and with no fan, it was like a sauna. But very much recommended overall, I'd definitely stay there again.

Hello rfg27 from Canberra,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to contribute feedback through Trip Advisor!. Congratulations on your 3rd review. The team love hearing feedback from our valued guests, greatly appreciated.

You must have enjoyed escaping from the chill of the south. I was pleased to hear your family enjoyed their stay!. The facilities at the hotel are great for families and Muddies playground is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. My children LOVE their time there and its great for the parents to be able to grab a coffee at the local cafe whilst watching the little ones have so much fun.

Thank you again for this valuable feedback!. Please continue to Stay travelling, to Stay reviewing and please continue to Stay with the Holiday Inns.

Best regards,

This is a nice hotel. Very nice tropical atrium. I had booked a King room but when we got there we were told it was unavailable "due to unforseen circumstances" and were given a room with 2 queen beds which was very nice, clean and well presented. The balcony overlooked the city and mountains but was small and encased in solid concrete so we didn't feel like sitting out there. Housekeeping the next day lacked the finesse of a 4 star hotel. The pillows weren't replaced on the bed and they didn't restock tea and coffee. Breakfast was a shambles. For $23 the food was good but there was no organization. They ran out of plates and cutlery. We struggled to find a table that had been cleared of dirty plates both mornings that we were there and by the itme we had finished breakfast there had been very little effort to clear any of the tables. We did watch one of the staff working on one table - he wiped all the food scraps onto the floor. Better off going to Maccas for breakfast.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony room avoid the ones at the back.

Hotel provides a real holiday feeling.
I had a room with sea view and terrace. Was very nice. No luxury but everything you need is there. Breakfast is very nice too. Frontdesk staff is friendly but administration could improve. My invoice had several mistakes and was only resolved after the manger was involved. The tour desk (Sue) is indeed very good. I also spoke with another lady filling in for Sue but she is much less knowlegeable... Hotel is on the promenade, excellently located!
Overall excellent choice when you are in cairns.

Hello Travelerworldbelgium,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to contribute through Trip Advisor!. WOW....you have been busy. 31 reviews in 25 cities. I love travelling, its one of my passions. When I was 22 (16 years ago) I travelled through Belgium where the people were great, the beers fantastic and my love affair with chocolate started!. Still working off that last passion at the gym!.

The team love to hear when our valued guests have enjoyed their stay & I will be sure to share this review with them as I do all.

A large part of delivering on our core purpose of creating a "Great hotel, guests love" to create an environment where our guests can relax and be themselves. By creating a relaxed, friendly environment we find our guests can more quickly slip into that well deserved Holiday mode. I'll pass on your kind comments to Sue at the tour Desk....certainly a "fountain of knowledge" we know.

Stay travelling, Stay reviewing and please continue to stay with the Holiday Inns around the world.

Best regards,

Matt R & TEAM Holiday Inn Cairns

Great friendly staff. Perfect view of the Esplanade. It was very calming watching the giant baramundi. Love the room we had and it was value for money. There was a football presentation night while we were there and we didn't hear a thing. Clean and tidy with some nice little spaces just to relax.

Room Tip: it was on the corner of the espanade and the RSL club the balconey had great views over the esplanad...

Hello AussieHelen,

Great to hear from you and thank you for your wonderful feedback!. The team love to hear when our valued guests have enjoyed their stay & I will be sure to share this review with them as I do all.

"The Fish are HUGE"...correct!. Our 18 resident Barramundi are over 20 years old, introduced in 1990 as little finglerings and have grown into whopping 20 plus kilos monsters!!. They aren't cheap to feed as they have grown fond of fresh green prawns. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 1.00pm we have live feeding's There is no cost and we encourage our guests to get up close and feed our local residents!. "BOOM"....that's all you hear as the massive mouth engulfs the prawn taken cleanly from the hand. Don't worry, they don't have teeth and its a lot of fun. I still get out there from time to time and my children Kody (6) and Jade (4) love it!. They call the fish "Boomerangs" which I laugh at(They spent too long in New Zealand at my last posting)!.

Again, thank you for valued feedback!. We look forward to welcoming you back to a Holiday Inn in the near future. Stay travelling, Stay Adventurous Stay at a Holiday Inn.

Best regards

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Cairns for two nights in March 2012 and were impressed by the top class facilities, the friendly and helpful staff and the fabulous food in the restaurant - both for breakfast and dinner. Also for the cleanliness, location and attention to detail particularly by the housekeeping and restaurant staff. Good views to the mountains from our room. Access to and from the car park to the street was also a good design feature. Highly recommended.

The hotel is right along the ocean and one whole wall is a window. The views were great. It is unfortunate that there was not a balcony to sit outside. The rooms were a good size, clean, comfortable pillows and a great bed. The layout of the hotel felt like a resort, with palm trees in the center and a fish pond. Very relaxed feeling. The room came with a fridge and instant coffee, but no kettle. Room service was good and quick. My son loved the pizza he ordered and said it was the best he had had in a long time. If an adult wants to order off the children's menu, they will charge you an extra fee of $8. The internet is $12 for 1 hour. No free use of computers or internet, like we had in sydney, Brisbane and Port Douglas. The pool and spa are nice, but cold. It is not a heated spa. The hotel is close to the ocean and the airport; two things that we were looking for.

My Boss booked this Hotel for us as he is a member of their Loyalty program. It is only a couple of blocks from the middle of town and one block away from the esplanade. So it is easy walking distance to everywhere you need to go,

Check in girl was very friendly and I had the same girl on check out.

The Rooms were nice enough with a choice of firm and soft pillows. I guess the only downside is the shower in the bath with a tiny screen so if you were a bigger person than me then you may splash a lot of water on the floor.

Good size TV, with a few Pay TV channels and a desk to do some work on.

The Breakfasts are reasonable prices at $22 for a Full Hot Buffet with a few unique features like a Fresh Juice Machine and also Coffee Machines as well. Bigger choice than normal of hot foods with Crispy Bacon as well as Soft Bacon. Greatvalue for money

So I was very happy with my stay there.

Room Tip: See if you can get an Ocean view Room
