“A great day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We were left with a half day and nothing to do, so we decided to visit the botanic gardens.

Parking is a bit strange (you don't realise it's the parking until you're well and truly past it) but there is plenty to do once you arrive.

There are a few longer walks of a few KM (which we didn't do), or you can wander around the gardens. The rainforest sections are fantastic - plenty to see and well set out paths. There is also an orchid pavilion, and a section on carnivorous plants. We were particularly interested in the area growing different native plants and how they were used for food, medicine and craft.

We didn't have any problems with mosquitoes when we were there, but I would recommend coming prepared with repellant anyway.

A great way to spend a few hours and enjoy being in a tropical rainforest.

“Loved it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

With good timing, and a bit of fast walking from the nearby car parking, we managed to get onto one of the free guided tours of the gardens. Check for tour times at the visitor centre.
The amount of different trees, shrubs, flowers and unusual specimens was amazing. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining (always a good thing for a guide). Saw some different birds too. Do not miss going there, even for a short time.

“Beautiful Gardens and Forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

A real gem in the middle of Cairns. The Botanic gardens are a wonderfully peaceful and beautiful place to wander. There are a fantastic selection of plants, ponds and lakes adjoining the wonderful tropical forest with a boardwalk through it for easy access.
