Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

“Greaty place for the family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

The lagoon is beautiful, right in the middle of Cairns. Next to the beach, shops and in a great park with BBQ and playground facilities.

“Wasn't Impressed”

Nice pool, Watched over by life guards which is a good thing but I don't know about the locals in the park alongside. I think something could be done about them.

“What a Wonderful Facility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

There are not many places you can go for free of such high quality. My 2 children (aged 8 & 10) spent 3 fabulous afternoons exploring this lagoons. With shallow paddle pools, deeper pools where swimming is required and a fountain to explore as well as a pristine sandy beach to play on, there is something for all ages! The change rooms are large and clean and there is also a kiosk.

“Right in the city, relaxing during the day and beautiful at night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Love it when you're not out swimming in the Great Barrier reefs. Perfect place for a swim in the warm Cairns sun during the day and beautiful at night. There's a security patrolling the area at night which definitely made us feel safe when we are just chilling by the pool.
