Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

“A quick dip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

Even though our resort was straight across the road from the swimming pool we only went in for a quick dip on our last day just to say we had been in as we were usually too busy doing other things or just enjoying the Cairns hospitality. We felt the pool was an amazing place and just enjoyed strolling around and listening to the free music. Looking at the normal beach it was money well spent by the council/government as there were always plenty of people there.

“Fun place to be at Cairns, in the afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

This public pool, of ocean water, is a great and fun place to be. Well organized, with public bathrooms, and clean installations, surprised me. It was worth while having a swim in the pool.

“Swimming lagoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

Looks good and it is free. It is right on the esplanade, opposite the shopping strip. At night we saw performers in the area. A short walk takes you to picnic areas and work out stations along the esplanade.

“Great change to the beaches up the East coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

If you're travelling up the East Coast, by the time you get to Cairns, you'll be sick of the sight of beaches so the esplanade is a welcome change - always clean, open till late at night (9;30pm I think), never over packed
