Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

“An oasis”

Great, huge pool in the middle of the city. Great for kids as well as adults. Nice surroundings as well, the esplanade itself is worth a walk.

“Great pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

Excellent substitute for Cairns lacking a beach (there's a long story behind why it doesn't have a beach, but there used to be one many years ago). This pool is clean, very large and is great for relaxing in. Also plenty of facilities in very close proximity (free barbecues, toilets, showers, hire lockers). The pool itself is surrounded by sand an grass with trees all around. Caters for everyone.

“Nice, clean pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Since their seashore is a large mud flat, this large pool fits the swimming need for the area. The pool is well-staffed and was clean each time we visited. There is a sandy beach area on one side of the pool so you still get the beach feel to it. Lots of people sunbathing and in the pool, but since it is a very large area, there was still plenty of room for us. The pool was also open late enough to get in a nighttime swim.
