“Pretty we'll a shocking old motel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I stayed there just over a year ago and wouldn't repeat. Booked with Agoda, arrived early from Perthand couldn't get into the room for about three hours. Then they slugged me with a $20 key deposit and I never received the refund.
The room was like something out of the sixties and looked like it hadn't been cleaned since then.It was only cleaned once while I was there and started having to buy my own toilet paper! It was in a good location but that's all it had going for it.

Room Tip: Choose a room in another motel.

Poorly presented room, floor obviously not vacuumed and generally smelt like feet. Sheets old and grey, poorly made beds made a bad impression of hygene. Only one towel provided for a room of four beds. Shower recess was black and mouldy, fridge was stained with rust.

Front counter staff member was pleasant and cheerful. Unfortunately, you only encounter them once or twice in your stay, the main attraction, the room, was an experience I wish to forget.

The good thing about the motel is that even though we arrived at 9 pm and reception closed at 7 pm the on site manager checked us on. The room is very old, dirty, had bugs. There were shower curtain rings but no shower curtain. The air conditioner made noise but did not cool. The location close to the esplanade was good and there was on street parking close by. The on site parking was full.

Good points - the air conditioning is so old and noisy that people turn theirs off after cooling their rooms down so it is possible to get to sleep unaffected by such noise. Only about 50AUD per night. Helpful staff - or were when we were there. Rooms situated back from the road so little traffic noise. Used by people visiting friends and the hospital in the area who say they stay there whenever they are in Cairns.

Less good points - small pool. Needs a good clean and refurbishment.

This motel may be 'budget' but honestly spend an extra $15 and go somewhere else. I'm local but had to spend a night in town and sorry to say but the room was below standard.
1)Old sticky coffee spill in top of fridge/counter
2)Old bread crumbs under toaster and in cupboard where toaster obviously usually lives
3)Cup very badly stained....well what I thought was a stain but found I could wipe some of it off, so obviously dirty.
4)Dirty pillow case on the bed. Not stained as it actually felt hard and crusty. The sheets look grey and tired and certainly didn't feel refreshing. The bed is comfortable though.(If you bring your own pillow)
5)The fan above the bed is filthy!
6)Used soap and empty shampoo bottle with lid off in soap holder in shower, which made it feel like the whole shower was left unclean after last occupant.
7)The air-conditioner is so old and loud that unless one has ear plugs it would keep you awake and then starts one thinking about the possibilities of catching Legionnaires disease.

Cairns City motel is great value for money! There is air conditioning in the room, a ceiling fan, mozzie net over the window, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, plates, cutlery, mugs and glasses, TV too.
The motel has a cosy atmosphere and staff are happy to help!!! It's nice to relax by the pool or sit outside on the balcony :)
Its located 10 minutes away from the lagoon, nightlife, eating places and the mall!
We have arranged to come back and would reccommend! :)
Thanks guys

After booking, the lady from the reception emailed me that when we arrived the reception will be closed. So on the day of arrival, she called us to tell us the code of the key locker and which room we had.

Entering the private room I noticed that the room could use some improvement. Small things. Also the carpet was looking old and used. Besides this, the room and shower were clean and spacious, mattresses were good and comfortable and the room also contained a small fridge.

The motel is a nice place to stay. The location is perfect. It's quiet and they staff was polite. Also other stayers in the motel were nice.

You can sit outside and there is also a pool. The pool is small, but clean.

There is wifi, but you have to pay. The odd thing is that you buy wifi for your stay. So if you stay 1 day or 1 week. You still pay the same. Which was 5 AUD.

On the before leaving I arranged at the reception a taxi van for the next morning. I needed to pay at the reception. The next day our taxi van did not showed up. Well, it probably showed up, but me and my sister were waiting for almost a hour and time was becoming precious. During that hour we called the taxi company multiple times and they told us that they were coming. They did not.
Eventually I asked the reception if they could call another taxi company. She arranged another taxi and gave us the money back of the day that we paid before.
