“Great stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

Close to a major shopping centre as well as loads of cheap and yummy take-aways, this apartment/hotel caters to the business traveller as well as the family looking for a city getaway.
I stayed for 3 nights in their "King" room and despite it being next to the elevator, had no issues at all with noise. The room was beautifully appointed with a mattress to die for; a lovely balcony with seating for coffee in the mornings and a modern shower that pummeled me awake.
The room (which was NOT one of their apartment rooms) had a small fridge to store cold meal items in as well as tea and coffee making facilities. I had a desk with Internet connections and ample powerpoints to let me work from my room.
The staff were gracious and friendly, and as an added bonus, I could book a taxi instantly from their free dedicated phone line.

The location of these apartments is excellent as it is close to the Westfield Shopping centre and near the bus interchange. Queen rooms tend to be small, but have all the necessities. Huge balcony with chairs and table. Always friendly staff and rooms are very clean.

We arrived at Chermside in November for our short stay in Brisbane and were met by very friendly staff who allowed us to store our luggage until our room was ready later in the day.

The location was excellent for us since we were in Brisbane for the Ashes and the free buses were a 5 min walk from the hotel. Beyond the bus station was a larger shopping center with supermarkets, restaurants and a movie theater.

The suite was modern but really small with tiny closets. This was not a problem for our 2 night stay as we barely spent any time in the room.

Chermside apartments actually live up to their website, photos and advertising. We stayed in a 2-bed apartment for a couple of weeks over christmas when it rained for 11 days out of the 14 we were there. The kids loved the pool. The fully self-contained apartment was a good size for 4 people and visiting family groups, the wrap-around balcony was huge with comfortable outside settings, the marble and granite kitchen was fully equipped (even including a coffee plunger), the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was over and above expectation. The apartment was also surprisingly quiet considering the building is on a busy road, and we rarely heard any noise from the neighbouring apartment. The apartments were slightly pricier than equivalent places in Brisbane, but the best value for quality I could find in Chermside. Unfortunately the ground floor restaurant was closed for christmas so we didn't get to try it out, but the apartments are located just across the road from a Westfield mall. The tiles in the pool area are also extremely slippery when wet, which was a bit daunting for me as I was in a leg cast for the holidays. I would definitely recommend Chermside Apartments, particularly for groups and families.

Wow - spacious rooms, large balconies, great management. Received one of the warmest welcomes when checking in and they couldn't do enough for us during the stay. Full kitchen (with sharp knives, even!), beautiful bathroom. Great tasting food at the Italian restaurant on site. Close to mall and main bus terminal in Cermside.

We were checking out the next day and found the questionairre under our door the night before and wrote some pretty nice things on it...we had a really lovely welcome from the managers when we checked in..and could not fault the apartment except for the lack of kid friendly cups and plates ..that was my only gripe..everything else was great!

So head to bed on the last night...flying out early the next day...and WTF the fire alarm went off at 11.30ish????? kids are freaking out...I am freaking out as we cant even hear ourselves speak! ***Now I do understand that these things happen...BUT... the whole week we were observing all of the FIRE ALARM notices in the apartment...no toast if the bedroom doors arent shut...no dryer if the bathroom door isnt shut....I used both of these during the week and had no dramas....I was even in the bedroom straightening my hair and could see the steam and was waving a hand frantically to not set anything off!*****

Our last night in Brisbane and we are all out in the street in our pyjamas with 100 strangers?????? What??? How?? Why?? Fire engine out front...apparently someone had a hot steamy shower?? Seriously?

No one from the hotel was there..as one of the guests had to open the fire engines door and ask the dude inside what was going on!! --no hang on there was...as we found out because when we went back up to our rooms the cards wouldnt work in either door...nice.... hubby raced down and found a man who had a master card...I had seen this guy previous in the week around the hotel and he was very lovely..very friendly.. THANKYOU !! You are a gem! ..

I dont really want to mention that our neighbours opened our door on the last night either...but I will...as the more we think about it we were 'çhecked out 'as soon as we paid? It was crazy too because when we couldnt get into our room after the fire alarm the guys that had opened our door earlier offered us thier cards incase they still worked.. *bless them* ....

So I ended up ripping up my nice comments in the questionairre the next morning as I was exhausted and dreading a long flight with two kids....

Thank you for your review - we appreciate your feedback. Good point about the kid friendly crockery - we'll discuss putting a couple of plastic sets in each apartment.

I am so sorry about the fire alarm going off. Unfortunately we are limited by the legislation and can only manage them - that's why there are notices displayed.

I'm so glad the duty managers were friendly and helpful. When the alarm went off, he would have been racing to the apartment to see if there really was a fire, then accompanying the firies in the building. I hope your flight went smoothly after the drama.

Regarding the opening of the door, in a "dual key" situation, the keycards of both groups of guests open the outer door into the foyer area, but not the inner door to your exclusive area. The keycard system is totally separate to being checked in or out.

I trust your flight wasn't too bad and that the good experiences staying with us outweighed the bad.

Kind regards

Judi

I would recommend this motel to any traveller to Brisbane, the derive is of unbelievable quality, nothing to big or small. On site managers bring life to the motel industry. It is of high standard that the restaurant "Bella Cosi" is attached, beautiful meals really to give justice to the name - Beautiful Things....... And with those words it too describes beautifully the motel 'The Chermside Apartments'.
