“surprisingly good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014 via mobile

first time stay at the emporium, for three days in Feb. check in fast and courteous. request for room with opening windows met with pleasure. room turns out to have sliding glass doors with juliette balcony- perfect, except for the truck depot across the road which seems to open early! gym is very small and limited equipment. roof pool is fantastic- sun all afternoon and long enough to swim laps. location os hotel is excellent for variety of good restaurants and bars, and good running track around the river. would def stay here again. plus- bonus of washing machine and mini kitchen if you're staying longer. one of the best hotels in BNE!

Rooms a tad small but beautifully decorated, we up graded to a room with a balcony which was stunning. Staff very friendly and happy to help. Lots of restaurants near by and a fabulous whiskey bar. Loved it will book again soon.

If you don't mind not having a fab view over the water then this place is amazing.

The do's:

BIg TV
Fab mini bar
Effective high quality shampoo/conditioner
Great shower
Contemporary decor
Excellent Concierge service, they do their job
Nice pool, bit exposed to neighbouring office buildings
A cocktail bar that you can walk into and if it's only you, you will feel downright comfortable
Comfy bed
AMAZING flavours at Gerard's Bistro, walking distance from Emporium for breakfast Sat/Sun only, lunch and dinner, book so you don't miss out. Tried Cru Bar, not a patch on Gerards.

Don'ts:

Stay here if you want to be CBD, unless you are happy catching a cab.

We enjoyed our stay, friendly staff, modern and very quiet rooms and really comfortable beds but the cleanliness was not what I would expect from a so called 5 star hotel. When you are standing in the shower you are looking at the brown marks around the rim of the toilet! There was a clump of dust sitting in the basin, hair on the bed and the bedside lamp and alarm clock was covered in a layer of dust with a long shard of dust hanging from the inside of the lamp which you look at whilst lying in bed.
The small pool is in need of maintenance with tiles missing in several places, rust and glass that hasn't been cleaned in so long that it is white. The other negative is that there is no restaurant so your only option is to have room service for breakfast. The standard of the breakfast was very good though.

EmporiumManagement, at Emporium Hotel, responded to this review, February 14, 2014
Dear Takemeaway01,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Emporium Hotel and for taking the time to review your experience.

We appreciate your positive comments regarding the rooms, breakfast offering and our staff however, it is disappointing that we let you down from a cleanliness perspective on this occasion. As this is not the Emporium Hotel standard your comments have been directly discussed with our Executive Housekeeper and we will review our processes to ensure that quality issues such as this do not recur.

In relation to our pool area, we have an ongoing maintenance program and work is under way to address the comments you have noted. Our pool is salt water and you are right that any water splashing on our glass screens does dry leaving a white mark. Although this area is attended to daily, as you can understand it is difficult to ensure this glass is mark free.

We hope to welcome you back to Emporium Hotel Brisbane soon.

Kind Regards

Justin McConnell

Welcomed on arrival and bags looked after immediately. Front desk service was great, it was Chinese New Year so the lady at the desk printed out a schedule for us and suggested some nice places to eat. Room was comfortable and set out nicely, with a coffee machine & Bose sound system (restricted to a low volume- fair enough). Pool on rooftop is just a lap pool, not that impressive or relaxing. Overall, nice, well run hotel.

Ideally situated in the Valley, the Emporium has a great atmosphere and is well worth a visit. The staff are fantastic and the restaurant nearby Tartufo is nothing short of brilliant, this place is well worth a stay.

No problems in staying here - friendly staff, car valet service, nice king room, comfortable and quiet. There is no hotel restaurant but there are plenty of eateries within a minute's walk of the front door, And 3 minutes' walk away is the James St shopping and cinema precinct. Taxis and buses into town are easy to catch too. The room service breakfast was very good as well. Loved it.
