“Not fancy but adequate, in reasonable location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Stayed for 2 nights in a room with ensuite bathroom on a weekend.
Not too expensive at $120 a night.
Thin walls, as everyone else says -- not a problem if you are a deep sleeper.
Located in pleasant residential area, walking distance close to several restaurants and Coles supermarket.
Airport bus can drop you at the door.
Arrived after business hours, so my name and room number was posted outside front door; phoned from my mobile phone and was given the door code to get in; room key was in the door.
Building, room, bathroom not fancy but quite adequate. Room attempts to be quaint with antique-like furniture.
Maria the manager/receptionist seemed helpful enough.
Free wireless internet -- a rarity in Australian hotels!

Overall I had a pleasant stay. I'd stay there again if I needed to be in New Farm, but I wouldn't make a special effort to stay there if I needed to be anywhere else in Brisbane.

Upon arriving at Bowen Terrace, you find a traditional Queenslander property. The staff are friendly and helpful however, once you have been taken to your accommodation be prepared for disappointment. The room is basic with very little fittings and shelves with which to unpack. Due to the thin walls and creaky floor boards the place is also very noisy, excavations starting at 7am next door did not help achieve a restful sleep. Upon waking we found no hot water to have a shower.

The accommodation is essentially a hostel, although the owners would prefer it to be called a guest house. For the amount we paid to stay in one of their ensuite rooms we could have stayed in the Novotel or Ibis in the CBD, and now feel decidely ripped off, this being one of the more expensive places we stayed in during our three week holiday. I Would not recommend this place to anyone except if they were backpacking and then it would be too expensive for their budget.

Hi Vixen
Thankyou for taking the time to write a review, we are glad that you found the staff and location of Bowen Terrace good, its disappointing to hear that you were not satisfied with your room, we did a survey last year before we renovated each room and asked people what we should put in the rooms, the general consensus was less is more, people wanted more room rather than clutter, I understand that everyone is different.
We are definitely a guest house catering from the flashpacker to the guests wanting their own room and bathroom with everything in-between, our prices are set accordingly to room, the cliental at Bowen Terrace is not a hostel cliental and that is not what we are after, we are a nice quiet friendly place to stay, there are plenty of cheaper accommodation around if you want to party.
I am surprised about your comment on the water as we have continuous hot water, depending on your room it can take a few minutes to reach you.
Once again thankyou for taking the time to write a comment.

Stayed 3 nights when I arrived in Brisbane, great place, friendly staff, reasonable price and very clean! Quiet area, 20-25 minutes walk from downtown. I recommend!!
Walls are pretty thin though, so it could be a little bit noisy if you don't have earplugs

So glad you enjoyed your time here, Julien. The thin walls are a typical characteristic of a Queenslander, so you're quite right, if you're a light sleeper ear plugs aren't a bad idea :) All part of the charm. Best wishes.

We spent one night in the house after arriving on a flight. The room was spotless and spacious, free coffee and tea provided, a fridge, tv and kettle. Bed was comfortable, but walls are thin and we found the house to be noisy.
For how many rooms there are, the rush to use the shared bathroom in the morning was a bit busy.
The deck out back is a breezy, great place to relax and use your 2 hours free internet.
We really like the place and were able to park our camper van for a couple of nights. We slept in the van but were able to use all the amenities as part of the rate. It was a great deal.
Staff are super friendly. Kitchen was clean and the common/tv room was a nice place to hang out.
A bit of a walk from the city but not too far. Maybe a half hour. You could probably take a bus, but we like to walk. There are shops and restaurants within walking distance as well. The New Farm area is a nice place to explore.
Would stay again!

I had a wonderful stay at the Bowen Terrace Int. Marion and Tracey were the most friendly and accomodating hosts. The hotel is housed in a a lovely old Queenslander a stones throw from New Farm, Fortitude valley and a short walk to the CBD. It really could not be better. The rooms are immaculate, the kitchen perfect for cooking, the garden is ideal for breakfast in the sun or a barbecue in the evening. There is a basic laundry service and free WIFI. Really what more could a traveller ask? It was very hard to leave...Thanks again!

Bowen Terrace was a great place to stay when I was in the city for a weekend away. The rooms are always clean and tidy and really comfortable to sleep in. The woman working there, Tracey, was super helpful and friendly, and gave me tips on what to do in Brisbane and how to get around. There wasn't any question she didn't know how to answer and was always in a good mood.
BT is only a short walk from the train station and the nightclub district, so going out at night was really easy. And there are lots of great cafes around the area as well, especially the French patisserie around the corner!
Would definitely recommend this to all of my friends, whether they're in the city for the weekend or coming from overseas. Very relaxed, quiet place to stay with great staff and very affordable for how close it is to the heart of Brisbane. I am certainly going to stay again.

Me and another guy in the dorm have been robbed during night. Somebody managed to break into the house and then came into the room easily as there apparently was a key laying in front of the room door. As long as the security is not improved by for instance installing lockers in the rooms and putting cctv into the corridors and installing a better lock on the front door, I can not recommend this hostel.

Hi Cimbernluke

Thank you for your positive feedback that Bowen Terrace is a nice quiet place to stay. We also acknowledge that for the first time since I have owned Bowen Terrace we had security problems while you stayed with us. Please be assured that by midday all locks were completely replaced by a locksmith and security lockers have been installed in the dorms. Bowen terrace is a very quiet place to stay and we take security very seriously.
