“A must-visit in Brisbane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

You might not think of Brisbane as a cultural destination but the huge complex of centres on the South Bank should do enough on their own to dispel this myth. The Performing Arts Centre, Museum, Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art cover a huge footprint and contain a huge cache of treasures. And although built in the Brutalist style beloved of local authorities, there are some stylish design touches to the buildings themselves.

We took on the QAG and spent more than haf a day there. It has an impressive standing collection and, on our visit, was hosting a Dürer exhibition. The gallery layout is particularly easy to navigate and lends itself to walking around on a whim. And there is an absolutely spectacular treat in store as you walk into the main foyer (I won't spoil it).

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

For a regional art gallery, I was quite impressed and spent a couple of hours browsing through the modern art and local paintings, sculptures and photographic exhibitions. There was enough variety to interest most people.

What's more it's free so you can't go far wrong. :)

“A treasure in Brisbane”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

A visit to the Qld Art Gallery, located at Southbank Brisbane is always a treat. The entry is free and you can see a lot of the permanent collection, however if there is a special exhibition there is usually a separate charge. There is a cafe on site where lunch is popular...always inspirational, with a fantastic bookstore and resource area.

“Reminds me of Ferris”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Bueller that is! I've been here a few times in quiet lunch hours and I find it has a refreshing atmosphere. Lots of interesting paintings, but the thing I like best is the way the architecture works in this place

“Art in a peacefull setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

I find it very soothing to walk around looking at the various art. The cafe is bonus, with both indoors and outdoors eating areas. Only reason for VG is they tend to do renovations / changes leading to some art work either temporarily disappearing or put in a different area.
