“At a discount price, an ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2007

We stayed in the 4.5 star "tower" part of this hotel. First impressions were that the room and hotel were clean and staff actually quite friendly, however, this definitely is not a 4.5 star property.

Rooms are quite a generous size, bed was advertised as a King but was in-fact a Queen. Furnishings are some-what dated and basic and parking can be a challenge as there is no guaranteed parking space in the hotel.

I think some of the previous comments are a little harsh. Providing you don't pay full price for the room, it's not a bad option. Location is central and that's one of the most important considerations in any city stay.

I also agree with Puntrd. I found this hotel Very clean and the staff very very helpful. It is a great location so close to the CBD with super easy access to get to and, to get from to all activities.
The rooms are very clean and large and I do admit it is not a 4 star hotel more like 3 star. For the price it was a superb hotel and I would not hesitate to stay there again.. I would also recommend the Astor Metropole to others.

A lot of whingers here it seems. I booked this place for $90 a night and was extremely surprised at how good the quality of accommodation was. Let's face it folks, a 3 to 3½ star place isn''t going to have butler service and high tea in the afternoon is it? My room was large, the bathroom was spotlessly clean, the fridge worked a treat and the TV had Foxtel channels. The balcony was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The location was very good, only a five-minute walk into the CBD and a 20-minute walk to Lang Park to see the Storm beat the Broncos (yeah!). Really, for $89 a night it exceeded my expectations, but then again my expectations are obviously lower than others on here ;-)

We would not have stayed here if all other hotels were booked out. A so-called 3/4 star hotel! The rooms were an absolute disgrace ie; heavily stained carpet, ripped pillow cases, stained sheets, hairs in bed, flaky ceiling, scuffed paint work, holes in bathroom floor tiles, rickety cupboards, dusty and rusty fridge etc. This was all compounded wth the late night road works that stared at 8pm and went onto mid-night, as well as being back at it the next day! The hotel was informed but neglected to inform guests. An email to complain to management was ignored and she refused to see us. (Best Western head office couldnt even get the hotel to contact us on their request and they ended up apologising on Astor Metropoles behalf!) Other guests were heard complaining numerous times about a long list of problems. Staff unable to deal with this. We were told, "Well what do you expect for 80 dollars"!
We don't expect the Ritz but we do know that lack of cleanliness and rude staff are not 4 star! This hotel is a shambles and needs to be pulled down to start all over again. I can't believe Best Western lets them use their name.I would be ashamed!

We found the hotel in a travel book and booked on line - no problem.

The hotel was well placed and central. It consists of an old building and a new tower block. We booked a deluxe room with a balcony in the old building, thinking this would have character. No character and not deluxe. The room was a good size with a sink and fridge. The balcony was OK, but over looked the main road. We would describe the room as tired and in need of modernisation. The en- suite bathroom consisted of toilet, sink and shower and was a good size. However, whilst the shower was in full working order, there was only a trickle of water.

The roof top pool is very small and did not look appealing. Staff helpful and polite, room was cleaned daily, but we did notice some dirty plates left outside a room for two days.

Overall, OK for a short cheap stay in Brisbane.

You thought Basil Fawlty ran a comedy club, this took the biscuit. Where do I start?

Incompetent staff (I was told I could access my car 24 hours only to be told at 6.30am the next morning I'd have to wait until a second member of staff started work at 7am to be let out!), run down, phone in room didn't work, hot water in 5 minutes, no hotel information in room and VERY VERY noisy. so much so that we left at 6.30am the next morning.

Do not stay here. The only thing it's got going for it is proximity to the city centre but I'm sure there are others around.

Sydney, Australia.

Definately one of the worst stays I have ever experienced. Started even before I arrived by the rude manner a female staff member talk on the phone to a traveling companion. Other members of staff looked to have better things to do then look after paying clientel.

The room booked was thought to have a queens sized bed. Well they got me on that one. 2 singles pushed together to form 1 larger bed. Airconditioning unit in the wall had a part hanging from it with duct tape. Missing light bulb, no remote for the TV. Oh yeh the room was for a disabled person which I only realised when I walked into the bath. Definitely not 4 star. If you like throwing money away and getting treated rudely feel free to stay here. If not find somewhere else.
