I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed we were with this hotel. Booking a special rate through wotif, we chose a 3-star room with air-conditioning, a double bed and lockable doors. We received anything but. Arriving we were sent down a dark, dingy hallway with stains on carpets to a room. When entering we noticed the bed was shoved under a sloping roof, so much that you could not even sit up in bed. There was an awful smell coming from the bathroom, as though the pipes were backing up. There was a cooling system right in the middle of the room, just plonked on the carpet. We realised this was to be our 'air-conditioner' as the one on the wall was not blowing air. When switching the cooling system on, we noted that there was hot air blowing out from a pipe at another end. We phoned reception and they sent someone to look, pretending they didn't know anything about it. We were not pre-notified we would be put into a room with such an issue. The response was that we would have to leave the balcony door partly open and allow the hot-air end of the pipe out the door whilst we slept. Being on the ground floor in the middle of the City, we felt this was ludicrous and extremely unsafe, not to mention not what we had booked & paid for. When we expressed this to reception we were told there were 'no other rooms available' and we would 'just have to put the pipe outside'. I insisted that we had clearly booked a room with lockable doors and a working air-conditioner, at the very least. Then, a room magically appeared for us to be moved to. We were told we had been 'upgraded' to the 4 star room on the 9th level. After being stuck in the elevator with the door opening and closing 6 times before it moved, we finally got to the 9th floor and felt our way to our room in yet another dark hallway. A laminated card stuck to the door of our room with what I hope was at least blu-tac, but looked more like chewing gum, told us it was our room. When entering we could smell the familiar smell of backed up pipes from the bathroom, which had dried clumps of what I hope was dripped soap on the counter, but could have been anything. We also noticed they had put us in a room with 2 single beds, not very enjoyable for a young couple on a holiday to the city. One of the beds linen had a brownish stain on it. And the other bed wasn't even made properly, with the mattress protector showing and the sheet only pulled to halfway down the bed. We decided it was way too late to try switching rooms again, add to that there were about 30 tourists in the lobby about to check in and it was nearing midnight. Running into other guests in the hallway (literally banging into them as we couldn't see with no lights) they expressed they were shocked at the disgusting state of the hotel. We then decided to try the air-conditioner to get some relief from the 32 degree heat. Excellent, the air-conditioner worked. But, it did not adjust from 16 degrees. It wouldn't go warmer or colder - it was 16 degrees or nothing. Of course, checking the cupboards we found no extra blankets, so a broken sleep was required to switch the air-conditioner off and then back on to keep the temperature at something between freezing & boiling. Also, on our 2nd night in the hotel, from about midnight to 2am, we heard sounds above us that sounded like there were some sort of furniture being moved around, or perhaps some renovations taking place right in the middle of the night. It was quite frankly, an absolute joke. This was by far the most ridiculous and painful hotel experience I have ever had. I am appalled you consider any of your hotel to be 4 or even 3 star. It was atrocious and we would hope there will be some sort of recompense for our charges paid to stay in this terrible place.
