“CENTRAL AND CONVENIENT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Had 2nd floor unit - fully self contained - small but very usable kitchen - comfortable - LOCATION is excellent - very convenient to Roma St Transit Center (airport, trains and all long distance coaches), good breakfast downstairs at adjoining restaurant, short walk to Ann St and shops - also handy to River and all ferry services for sightseeing. Staff helpful.

The price and the location are right but the Abbey Apartments are tired. The desk staff are great and do their best so when our booked apartment still wasn't ready at 3.00pm they offered us another which was in a rather sad state.

Shabbiness aside, it had only one chair at the dining table and the one on the balcony that looked like it had been picked up at a council clean up. I asked if we could have an extra chair for each location but was told the apartments are individually owned so what you see is what you get - a very odd way to run an apartment hotel. We opted to wait and see what our booked apartment was like and got in at 3.30pm.

It was better and had two chairs in each location but the ones on the balcony were a shocker. A sign in the unventilated bathroom warned that if we set the fire alarm off because of steam we'd be charged $1000. There were a few missing tiles, minimal crockery, cutlery and glasses and the cable internet connection not only didn't work, the socket collapsed inside the wall.

This place has potential and was clearly very good at one time but that time has passed. It is in urgent need of a makeover and a cohesive management plan.

Room Tip: Take a couple of founding chairs with you and make sure your showers are quick.

We have stayed here several times over the past 3 years or so and would do so again if we managed to get a good rate for the nights we planed to be there.
It's in a very convenient location, and we have been pleased with the service and cleanliness of the apartments.
We once we given one of the non refurbished rooms which was a little tired to put it politely, but the price we paid for the 3 nights we stayed on that occasion was very cheap, so we feel that there was little room to complain.
We learnt from this experience and now always ask for a refurbished apparent and have been very pleased at how clean and comfortable there are, even though it costs us slightly more than the non refurbished rooms.
The car parking situation can be a little scary, not enough places to go around so the fear of not finding a place is stressful, but if travelling to the city by train this is obviously not a concern.

Stayed at Abbey Apartments Brisbane overnight recently prior to an overseas trip. Stayed there due to being close to Roma St Railway Station to make ease of travel. Booking in was easy on line. Upon check in and being allocated our room was asked by staff to photocopy Drivers Licence. First time this has ever occurred and was advised it was hotel policy. I was quite shocked as this has never occurred at any other place I have ever stayed.

When we went up to our room the hallway between lift and room door smelled of cigarette smoke. Room smelled just the same, even though was a "non smoking" hotel. Sleep was interrupted by slamming of doors in hotel during the night.

The bathtub was dirty and looked in need of a good clean.

Room Tip: Ask to ensure it is clean.

Another couple and us stayed 3 nights in early August and we found our apartments on the 9th floor clean and tidy.
Each apartment had four sets of towels. No problems with the bed.
We choose these apartments as they were opposite Roma Street railway station and were handy to the river and the city centre.
Own washing facilities which was handy if you travel light.
We are staying again in October on our to Cairns.

Stayed at Roma on Abby for 5 days in July, to jump right of the plan on to the train and arrive pretty much at the door step of the apartment was great, staff at reception were nice and friendly. For the cheap price we paid I couldn't and wouldn't complain about the minor few things, the location was awesome 5 mins to the Queens St mall. I thought overall it was fine and would stay there again.

Airport train is straight to Roma St and it is just opposite the station. The apartment is basic and includes a bedroom with ensuite, a kitchen and living area with balcony. It is close to CBD and restaurants. Not bad for the price, but seems a bit "worn" out and tired. A strange smell in the lifts, but that is what you get for a budget price. Overall I would give it a 5 out of 10
