I only joined Trip Advisor.com in January 2007, mainly for perceptions of travellers for overseas destinations. The advice was adequate enough to see family stay at some quite nice establishments in Dubai and the UK. So to be fair I decided to start listing our travels, good or bad!
We have just returned from a quick getaway to the Southeast (QLD). I will post Sydney reviews after Christmas 08, and South Australia after Easter 09.
Stayed 5 & 6 September 2008 at The Rendezvous Hotel. Appearance at entry was quite inviting. Reception was welcoming, and quick to recognise our arrival.
Please bear in mind if using any offers or specials, inform them on check in. We use Qantas Frequent Flyers and Hotels/holidays. On this occasion they were a little unsure on how to proceed, but when documents were produced, the whole package was understood.
Checkout made adjustments as well, but nothing to cry about. That's Life!
Staff turnover in any major city is always an issue, and perhaps we came across the same. Believe me, they were very professional in approach and with our requests.
The foyer and library is an area to relish. The Decor is almost period and well appointed and clean. Lifts relate to the Heritage listing of the building, but are clean and safe.
The Room. We stayed in the largest one bedroom suite available.
Nice corner position on 3rd floor overlooking Anzac Square and parts of the city lights at night.
Ample space to the three seater lounge setting, dining table for four and TV area. Cable and Free to Air available as well as In House Movies.
Quite a large kitchenette area and bench space if you feel the urge to cook on holidays! We decline to do the same!
Bedroom. Big enough to sleep in! Queen bed, side tables with all the usual gadgets. Small flat panel TV on the wall, if you really want to watch TV in bed on holidays! Wardrobe hanging space a little on the small side if you were to travel heavy. In room digital safe of a good size (may fit your Laptop if you are really not on holidays!
Bathroom. Quite large, includes a washer/dryer tucked away if you need to do it! Be aware for stayers with any mobility limitations, the shower over bath is set high, and one has to step up to get in there. Fittings are clean but showing some age. Perhaps a refurb in that area. But overall, clean.
The food. One word on our stay GREAT. The Hotel accommodates a restaurant and bar adjacent to the Foyer and is separate from the Hotel as in businesses.
The restaurant is Berkley's on Ann.
I have to say this is one of the best I have dined in for quality of food, presentation, and quantity. Pricing is as per the norm nowadays around the $ 35.00/40.00 for a main.
Well worth it given what I have indicated. Service is very friendly, normal people not trying to oversell it, if you know what I mean.
NOTE. Book for Saturday night's it gets busy. And grab one of the only two window tables. It's worth the "Watch the rest of the world go by" feeling. (especially on a rainy day or night)
Package: Secret Rendezvous - One bedroom Apartment, bottle of wine for each night and full daily breakfast. $ 229.00 per night. Bargain...We stayed two nights. (Ask about upgrades)
Highly favour the Rendezvous Hotel and "Berkleys on Ann" Restaurant.
KEYS> Location in the CBD, very close to River activities and Night life if that's what gets you going.
