The Mercure Hotel lies on the Brisbane River. It is only 200 metres to the CBD and casino. It is a walk over the bridge to Southbank Entertainment area and the preforming arts centre and theatre.
The hotel itself is quite old and is not much to look at from the outside. The bar and restaurant were closed for renovations when I was there so I cannot comment on them.
The rooms are not overly large but were very clean and comfortable. The view of the river is obscured by the South-East freeway although there is very little noise that can be heard inside the room from such a busy road. There are no balconies or operable windows in the rooms. However, when the blind is rolled up the window covers the full length of the room and this gives the room a bright and airy feel.
The bathroom has a large mirror and has all the mod-cons of a Mercure Hotel. The only issue with this hotel is its age. It is looking a bit worse for wear.
The staff were friendly, courteous and very helpful. The concierge and reception staff went out of there way to assist us in every way.
The major issue with this hotel is its car parking. It does not have its own car-park although the public car-park is next to the hotel you still have to walk outside the hotel and down the public car-park driveway to access your car as there is no internal lift connecting it to the hotel. Parking was an additional $12.00 per day.
I give the staff 5 stars and the hotel itself 3 stars (I would have scored it higher except for the hotels age and car-parking facilities.)
