“Great location, friendly staff”

Mercure Brisbane

Jan 28, 2008

The Mercure Hotel lies on the Brisbane River. It is only 200 metres to the CBD and casino. It is a walk over the bridge to Southbank Entertainment area and the preforming arts centre and theatre.

The hotel itself is quite old and is not much to look at from the outside. The bar and restaurant were closed for renovations when I was there so I cannot comment on them.

The rooms are not overly large but were very clean and comfortable. The view of the river is obscured by the South-East freeway although there is very little noise that can be heard inside the room from such a busy road. There are no balconies or operable windows in the rooms. However, when the blind is rolled up the window covers the full length of the room and this gives the room a bright and airy feel.

The bathroom has a large mirror and has all the mod-cons of a Mercure Hotel. The only issue with this hotel is its age. It is looking a bit worse for wear.

The staff were friendly, courteous and very helpful. The concierge and reception staff went out of there way to assist us in every way.

The major issue with this hotel is its car parking. It does not have its own car-park although the public car-park is next to the hotel you still have to walk outside the hotel and down the public car-park driveway to access your car as there is no internal lift connecting it to the hotel. Parking was an additional $12.00 per day.

I give the staff 5 stars and the hotel itself 3 stars (I would have scored it higher except for the hotels age and car-parking facilities.)

“Close to the CBD but not impressive”

Mercure Brisbane

Stayed at the Mecure and whilst it has some of the mod cons and is close the the CBD it was dated and the maintainence was hopeless.

We had an issue that wasn't resolved until the day before we checked out. We were there for four nights. For the price I expected better than that. We called out 6 times and ended up fixing it ourselves many times more than that.

Would not stay there again for an extra $20 I can stay at the Stamford Plaza (which I adored) see my review for that.

“Highly Average”

Mercure Brisbane

Pleasant staff in a very average hotel with somewhat tired rooms. Adequate but not a lot to write home about. Fairly central location but the river view rooms come with a view of the flyover/motorway so not really the thing that romantic dreams are made of. Functional and clean and you could not fault the staff but in our opinion a somewhat poor example of other hotels in the Accor group.

“Good location, nice rooms”

Mercure Brisbane

I thought this hotel was in a great location, just a short walk from Roma Street station in one direction and shopping and dining areas in the other. It is on a busy road but I wasn't disturbed by traffic noise during my stay.

The rooms are bright and a decent size. They look like they have been recently refurbished. I booked through the hotel's website and got a deal which included breakfast. This was buffet style with plently of choice including cereals, fruit and a range of cooked food. The hotel also has a small pool which is unheated, This might be okay in summer but in winter it was freezing!

All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to return.

This is not in any way an unusual or outstanding hotel, but it's fully satisfactory. The location is very good, a short walk from Queen St mall and the Roma St transit centre. We had a river view room, which did offer a nice view of the river and Southbank, although the multi-lane highway right outside the hotel spoiled the view a bit. The room itself was comfortable and in good shape though maybe slightly impersonal. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet, while in no way special or impressive, was quite good. You get 30% off if you pre-book the buffet at the reception.
Overall, the hotel is probably more geared towards business travelers than tourists and it's not a memorable experience, but it's fine.
