Stayed here for a week after Xmas, over new years. Harbour view room on the 7th floor. Great view.
Room was all good, bed and pillows ok, clean, desk was handy. The bathroom was pretty old, had some holes in the wall where something used to be bolted on, some mould in the corners. It must be a battle for all hotels in Darwin to keep this under control with the humidity. Why don't more hotels have exhaust fans? Bathroom was clean enough otherwise, bit small but did the job.
The housekeeping was a bit ordinary, we were there 8 days, they didn't change the sheets, just made the bed. The plug hole in the shower got plugged up with my wifes hair, they didn't clean this out, hopefully it was done before the next person got the room. They also seemed to come late in the day, which was a bit annoying. We'd go out in the morning, then get back mid-afternoon and the room wouldn't have been made up, so i couldn't remove my pants and relax until dinner time as we had to wait for housekeeping to knock then go out for 20 minutes.
Staff were all friendly. We got room service pizza's one night, they were disappointing, should have ordered from a pizza shop. Had breakfast twice in the restaurant, pretty good buffet, good selection, and all pretty fresh. Ate dinner in the restaurant one night, maybe a bit overpriced, chicken was bit dry and chewy, but quiet and decent size serving. Staff were nice.
Car park isn't the greatest if you've got your own car, i didn't care because we had a rental, but it's a bit tighter than it needs to be, and didn't appear to be any out of the way spots. Scary watching some people try to park from above, hopeless.
We signed up to the holiday inn club and got late checkout at 2pm and free daily newspapers. Love the NT News, it's a crackup. Someone played golf in a mankini which was front page news one of the days.
Our biggest issue with the stay was the fire alarm which went off twice on two seperate nights. First time was at 10 or 10:30 pm, of course it's the one night we try to have an early night as my wife had a migraine, just doze off and it goes off, went for ages, then the firey's left and it was still going, had to call them back to turn it off, so went for ages. We weren't evacuated, weren't sure what to do, should we get out of the building anyway in case it was an actual fire, if i don't get out, am i going to have to jump out from the seventh floor onto one of those cushions? At least we were overlooking the road and carpark so were able to tell that the people outside and the firey's didn't seem too panicked. Got over this one, then the next night at 4am it went again, frightened the bejeebus out us, had to wait ages for it to be turned off. I understand safety is important, but two false alarms in two days means something is wrong with their fire systems. Hopefully they can investigate and fix this problem so they aren't triggered unless there's an actual fire. Worst bit was when we checked out we didn't even get an apology. Spoiled the stay a little for us.
We were there in off peak, so based on other hotels in Darwin it was pretty good value, it looks like the prices sky rocket in peak times, i would be disappointed if we spent any more than we did, but for the price it was ok. I'd stay here again.
ask for a high floor with views.
