Owner description: The Deckchair Cinema is THE outdoor cinema on Darwin's Waterfront. We are a fully indepedent movie theatre operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences unseen movies on the big screen. The Deckchair Cinema is located on Darwin's Waterfront (Jervois Road), and is open 7 nights a week from mid April to mid November. Gates open nightly at 6.30pm so you can enjoy a tropical sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7.30pm screening. Our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. Come down early, enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk or feast your taste buds on a hot meal from one of our food vendors. No BYO alcohol. We are easily accessible via a well-lit picturesque walkway from the City Esplanade and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site.

“Lights, Possums, Action!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

A night under the stars on the Darwin Foreshore. A great atmosphere and not quite like any other cinema. Showing a number of foreign and Australian films. With meals from local restaurants available, drinks and the usual nibbles. A great night out and a must do for any visitor to Darwin. Note: although cute - don't pat the possums that are roaming the theatre looking for scraps!

Loved being able to sit out under the stars with a picnic and beer and watch a film that I wouldn't have otherwise seen. Definitely a must if you are in Darwin!

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Went with the family and saw The Exotic Marigold Hotel - the weather was perfect and the film fantastic. The food was ok - remember to bring cushions at leas 2 for comfort. Loved the way the audience clapped the film after - great night, the lady selling the tickets was great giving advice about mum and the wheelchair. This is a MUST do when in Darwin.
