Owner description: The fierce Cyclone Tracey that devastated Darwin in 1974 is chillingly re-enacted inside this museum's "Black Room." Situated in a tropical garden, the museum also houses Aboriginal, Southeast Asian and Oceanic art.

The museum is modern & informative especially with regard to cyclone Tracy which is an event which identifies Darwin world wide. There are so many interesting exhibits which are truely Australian.

“It's Free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

I can't believe we have been living in Darwin for 2 years just up the road from here and we had not been till last week. It's free, thanks NT Gov. Good attraction, worth having a look and it's a good spot down there to lay on the grass and have a rest.

“Interesting Art Gallery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

Well worth a visit. Excellent exhibits. Had heard about the 17ft crocodile on display - Sweetheart - and that was great to see. Also the story of Darwin's tornado Tracey along with sound effects.

“Well Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Entry free. Great aboriginal art displays, working/hunting tools, basket weaving etc. Also an excellent Cyclone Tracy display (happened Xmas Day 1974 I think?). Original newspaper cuttings, documentary to watch which was quite emotional. Even a "sound effects" room, which duplicates the sound of the cyclone, must have been terrifying for the Darwin population.

“Excellent place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Very informative, easy to navigate, variety of galleries from superb aboriginal art to Cyclone Tracy. Free talks are great and the cafe overlooking the harbour is a great place for lunch.
