“Amazing artificial beach in the hotel :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

The hotel was nice. The artificial beach was stunning & the bar in the pool was a lovely touch! The pool facing the ocean was stunning!
We also had dinner at Evoo upstairs. The food was absolutely amazing! The service was good too.
There was free wifi which was relatively fast but it was only available in the pool area and lobby, I would've liked wifi in my room, even if I had to pay for it.
The staff were friendly but we did find it strange we were told about the weekend specials when we checked in on a Tuesday and we were only staying one night!
Overall it was really enjoyable & relaxing!

Dear Esmeralda P,

Thanks for taking the time to pass on feedback about your recent stay, I am glad to hear you enjoyed spending time relaxing in both our pools and that you had a great experience dining in Evoo.

With regards to the WiFi, we do have complimentary WiFi available throughout the entire property, including the guest rooms. I appreciate you bringing the lack of WiFi in your room to my attention, I will certainly get our IT Team to look into the issue and resolve it as soon as possible.

I look forward to welcoming you back to SKYCITY Darwin soon.

Kind regards,

We stayed in the origional rooms that were old in style with the shower over the bath but were well maintained and clean. The complex offers a variety of food & beverage locations and the staff were polite and friendly. I would recommend you upgrade to the new accommodation which looks sensational. I will be next visit.

Room Tip: New Rooms around the pool are the perferred choice.

We stayed in the older style rooms 14/11/12 - 18/11/12 because the new resort ones were apparently booked out. We got a special online deal and turns out lucky as it meant we got some value for money. Accommodation was average. Cleaning staff were noisy cleaning other rooms but we were not disturbed at our request.

Reception staff are unfriendly and not particularly helpful. Not the service you would expect from 5 star establishment.

Complimentary Casino vouchers were an interesting touch, as we were treated like plebs in all parts of the casino. Service was almost the worst I have seen in the world (that is out of 36 travelled countries). My wife and I are both well educated professionals and could afford to purchase our own drinks, and would have spent a lot more money here if the service was better.

On 17/11/12 around 1800 we went for a drink at il piatto and were asked if we had a reservation despite the place being deserted. It was only when we indicated that we would be using our vouchers from the hotel that the waiter felt obliged. He asked for our coffee order prior to even seating us. I felt like asking to make that to go!

We stayed here because of the all the talk about the new lagoon and swim up bar. Really annoyed that nobody mentioned the bar was closed for renovation for a day, and there was no signage to indicate how long this would be for. When the bar reopened the service was next to non-existent. On one day the staff were just non attentive, there were four couples in the pool wanting to buy drinks and were ignored for about 20mins. On the second occasion there simply was not enough staff to cope with the demand. We chose not to have a drink at all.

Would suggest that those looking for a good quality experience explore other options such as the Medina (which we scoped out and the online photos don't do it justice) or perhaps Crowne Plaza.

Oh and if you are a sucker for all things 1980s, be sure to check out the casino as it still appears to be time warped there (in addition to some of the clientele who probably haven't moved in that time either)

Dear Markyj85,

Thank you for taking the time to pass on valuable feedback about your recent stay. I am sorry to hear your stay wasn’t an enjoyable one, especially with regards to the service you received whilst here. Service is certainly a priority at SKYCITY Darwin and we do pride ourselves on delivering 5 star service, the quality of which receives many compliments from other Tripadvisor reviewers.

As far as your comments about the casino looking dated, this is certainly something we are aware of and have already begun the process of upgrading facilities, with the Second Floor being scheduled for completion in February. Obviously the entire property can’t be renovated at the same time so this is an ongoing project.
I hope to be able to welcome you back to SKYCITY Darwin in the future.

Kind regards,
Jeanette Collett

Had an amazing stay great room, great customer service asked, Jeanette (I believe it was) to be moved up a floor and in was done with in minutes.. Room service was amazing the rooms and gardens very clean. The pools where to die for with a swim up bar. Coming from very remote Western Australia I can not wait to return. My only down side was the dragons court restaurant don't go there if its just u and by yourself. I was stuck in the door way with the head waiter talking to the staff, tell customers to hurry up as they were 10 minutes late for there booking was a shame. I had booked via the Internet asked for a window seat a good 3 weeks in advance but was not expecting the door way... Food was nice but very rushed..

New section is great. If you stay on the bottom floor, which means booking a superior room, you can get into the pool from your balcony. You can also swim from your room to the pool bar and back again. As its only chest height in the pool for adults, its not hard to get a drink from the bar, all while you are staying cool from the Darwin heat. We stayed in October which is in the build up so the pool was not far from our minds. Skycity is right on Mindil Beach so if you stay between April and October, you can go the fabulous Mindil Markets and then its only a short stoll back to your room and a welcome swim. Perfect. Staff were welcoming and helpful and service was prompt. Beds were heaven for sleep quality. Hi to Mari.

Room Tip: Go the lower floor in the new section if you can afford it.

when we drove up that long driveway towards the hotel with the casino on the left, i had my doubts about this hotel. but my opinions were changed by the time we left.

my room was nice. i've had better but i've also had much worse. it was nice and quiet at night so a good night's sleep was assured. the bed was comfy, but we warned - you have to like air conditioning. it's so hot and humid up there that air con is essential.

i found the staff very warm and friendly, with a relaxed vibe you'd expect up in the north end. we booked a taxi to take us to dinner one night and after waiting for 20 minutes, one of the staff dropped us off in the hotel limo free of charge.

the grounds are very nice, with a the lagoon pool difficult to beat.

i would definitely stay there again.

Dear Capt_Funkelicious,

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your recent stay with us and especially to hear how friendly and helpful you found our staff.

The humidity at this time of year certainly makes you thankful for air-conditioning in your hotel room and the spectacular lagoon pool to cool off in.
