“A Piece of History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

I happen to live in Darwin and have been to the old East Point Military Museum several times. The new Defence of Darwin Experience which is now colocated with the museum in the East Point Recreational Reserve just opened on 19 February 2012.
The Experience is a media interactive museum commemorating the bombing of Darwin Town on 19 February 1942.
The experience is well laid out and easily connects with the older museum. This is a great place to visit and to reflect on those who gave here all for our freedom.
Well worth the time of a visit, with a very cafe for those who would like a snack.
When visiting take the time to walk around the East Point Reserve to see the wildlife that abounds in this natural enclave so close to a major city.

“Very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

The Military Museum has added a much needed interactive display on the bombing of Darwin plus a theater running a continuous movie on the bombing, which is excellent.

Outside the building are old guns and tanks which are good to see. Also there is a smaller building, which used to be the old museum, which houses uniforms, guns and other related artifacts on WW2.

Overall an interesting visit.

You will need a car to get out here as the bus doesn't go out here and to walk it from the main road is about 3 -4 km.

Price is $14 to get in for adults.

“New features make this very educational”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

Not my thing to stare at history, but thanks to how this is setup it was a pleasure. Lots of interactions with the power of technology (projectors, touch screens etc). Very well laid out with plenty to see outside with good information that's easy to understand, plus many historical keep-sakes that will appeal to different personalities. I had no idea about the bombing of Darwin (shhhh!), but once I left I felt like a local.

Only 4 out of 5 only because the theatre was out of action so I couldn't review it, but I must have been apologised to my technical crew about 20 times for it not working. They were getting it working whilst we were there.

Will come back again next visit to complete the above. Very well done.

Found this while taking a drive so called in. Good displays and information. Interactive displays as well. Loved the individual stories on the interactive displays.
