We stayed at the Mantra over a weekend to celebrate my sister's 40th and the end of her chemo treatment ... a huge event for all of us. We booked both our rooms on wotif.com and while my husband and I were given an "ok" room, my sister and her husband were given arguably the worst room in the hotel, at the back of the building overlooking a driveway and the backpackers. This was despite numerous requests, before and during our stay, for a better room. The hotel itself is a little tired, but was adequate for us, as we didn't spend a lot of time there, but we found the service to be lacking - particularly the attitude of one quite lazy and flippant receptionist. It was a disappointing part of what was otherwise a fun trip to Darwin.

“Just what we needed!”

I was staying here with my wife and 3 kids (15, 9, 8) and I couldn't have chosen a better place. We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment, which had laundry, kitchen, and most importantly the balcony overlooking the harbour. The amenities were just what we needed after weeks of travelling around Australia, and being so close to the centre of town and shops we had little need to leave the hotel. It was slightly disappointing that no gym was available, but the pool was there and we all ended up using it more instead.
As for the staff, they were amongst the best we have experienced during our time around Australia.
I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Darwin, and be sure to ask for a habourview when making your booking. Sure it may cost a little more, but the sunsets are more than worth it.
Sincerely,
JV

Well located. Clean, spacious rooms and bathrooms. Staff very professional and helpful. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on food.

Highly recommend you have a meal at the Hanuman restaurant at the Holiday Inn down the road (make sure you book) for excellent food and service. Also try Pee Wees on the Point for a sunset meal to remember.

Arrived very late Good Friday - nice friendly staff. Room looks fine but wireless internet works for 5 minutes and gives up - this at $27.00 a day. Seems it can't be fixed for the whole weekend.

Television has 4 local channels only and mine did not work. I was transferred to a different room where tv worked but alas not the mini-bar/fridge.

Check-out is at 10 am but no extension possible to leave at 12pm for afternoon flight. This despite the fact that so many people arrive on late flights from interstate as I did.

Choose anywhere else to stay.

“couldnt wait to leave”

Mantra on the Esplanade

We found upon check in the staff member to be extremely condescending so much so that we shortened our stay from 5 nights to 3 nights straight away and once we got to the room rang around to find another place to stay (which ended up being fantastic, see skycity for other review).

As it was our honeymoon (although we did have a baby in tow), and the last place in broome we had stayed in gave us a bottle of champers and a free massage, there was absolutely nothing in the drab room at all. We had a room that was overlooking the backpackers and street, although we had requested a harbour view, didnt know that was an extra 70 a night and although hotel seemed quiet there was none available. Also the cot we had requested upon booking didnt arrive until after an hour after checking in by which time bubs was screaming to go to sleep.

Wasnt told there was work being done in other rooms and the banging started earlier than the baby woke!

The room was nothing special at all, have stayed in better places for less.

The pool was awful and old and all the tiles along the side were chipped and broken and not safe at all. The overwhelming chlorine smell on your skin after was enough to put you off swimming in there again, even though it was exactly what you wanted after a day of sightseeing in the heat.

Didnt eat in the restaurant,it didnt look appealing at all.

The only good thing was that once we were home and i wrote a letter to the hotel to complain the manager sent me an e-mail saying sorry and next time we were in Darwin we could have a complimentary night in a harbour view room.
