I just spent a week in Darwin. The trip was overall good and restful, but marred by the bad attitude of the reservation manager Susan. I made a booking for 4 nights and then realized that I was arriving at midnight. I should have just logged into the net and made a separate book for the extra night as there were rooms available at the same rate. However, I did the mistake of writing to the hotel and asking whether they will amend the booking, or whether I should amend it online. Susan assured me that she will amend the booking and that I only had to pay the extra night on check in. Not only did she not do as promised, I was left circling town in the middle of the night trying to get a place to sleep as the night reception said he couldn't do anything as they were fully booked. I made several attempts to contact Susan during my stay, but each time she avoided me. I followed up with an email to her copying the General Manager but the hotel didn't even bat an eyelid. This is Australian service for you. To every problem, the response is "no worries".

Stayed at the Saville from the 29th Dec thru to Jan 3rd. The hotel is in the best position in Darwin but at $179 per night not sure if it is really worth the money, we had a one bed apartment but overlooking the back of the hotel, to be fair they were busy as approaching New Year. On New Years Eve we watched the fireworks from our balcony but the town was full of back packers and very nosiy overnight all night. Staff were very friendly and a request to fix the shower door was carried out straight away. No cable TV and only 4 channels, there is not a lot to do in Darwin itself, feel its all a bit overated in brochures, the wharf precinct was a fair walk away and not a pleasant one and then nothing open at the other end. No good shopping in Darwin seems you need to bus out to Palmerston or Casurina. Dont miss the museum ( free entry ) the aboriginal art and Cyclose Tracey display and a great eating place there, and we loved the trips to Kakadu and Litchfield National Park with AAT Kings. Make sure you visit the tourist centre they were extremely helpful. Glad we went but probably wont be tempted back to Darwin again

We stayed at 2 other hotels while we were visiting the NT and Saville was definitely the best. We booked into a one-bedroom but not harbour-facing - that was all right though. We saved it for the last night of the year - New Year's Eve. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us tips on NY eve security. The best thing about the apartment was that it comes with its own washer and dryer - very handy especially for the last few days of the trip.

“Excellent property and location”

The Saville Suites Darwin is an excellent property, well located to the city centre and overlooking the harbour. Views from harbourside apartments are great.

Breakfasts in the Saville are good but expensive when compared to the excellent breakfasts available just outside the door and along Mitchell Street. The bar and restaurant appeared understaffed and getting a drink by the pool and in the bar required a native tracker and a hunting dog. These facilities appeared to be cost manged instead
of service managed as a result we avoided making the Saville our social centre while we were in Darwin and ate and drank elsewhere.
A pity because the kitchen did an excellent job and is credit to Saville.

Staff generally are friendly and efficient but we were surpirsed by the unnecessarily officious rejection of our request for a 2 hour extension of our checkout time after a 7 day stay at full rack rate. This problem was redressed after some discussion and inconvenince. Value for money at the rate charged is questionable as the Saville doesn't offer free internet access; parking; newspapers; or cable tv. Such tv as is available is of poor standard.

Our suite came as advertised, clean, well equipped and fresh. Some of the upholstery was ready for updating. The airconditioning was excellent and easy to adjust.

We stayed in a one bed apartment in August and echo the advice to make sure to request a room with a view of the harbour and not to the side. The views are excellent but not worth the price of the room -after all you could just walk outside and see the same view for free! The staff were unhelpful and rude both to us and to other people we witnessed them dealing with at reception. Not what Id expect from a hotel of this standard. Overall the hotel was fine, lovely room but in my opinion not value for money.
