“Travelodge Mirambeena During October 2007”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2007

On my first visit in early October (an overnighter) I stayed in one of the older style rooms which I found quite comfortable and clean despite needing a little bit of an update.

A business group was also staying there and their partying til 3am downstairs from my room did not help with the overall experience. The room service food was ok however quite expensive (skip the Bay Bug & Prawn Ravioli - the cheese sause tastes like melted Kraft Cheese) however their chocolate dessert was excellent.

Room service also do not provide soft drinks in a bottle or can and only serves by the glass. There is however a drink and snack machine in the foyer.

I have just returned from my most recent visit to this hotel (5 nights). I stayed in one of the 'newer' rooms in the multi-storey building. The furniture was old fashioned (think black bamboo/cane and wildly floral beadspreads), however it was clean. The beds were terrible and I woke up with a sore back each morning (this from an apparent 4 star room? 2 1/2 to 3 more likely). Due to living in Sydney you don't like to waste water so having to turn the shower on 10 minutes prior to hopping in to ensure you actually had some semblance of hot water was also a little disconcerting.

Breakfast in the restaurant each morning was ok with a reasonable selection on offer however they need to do something about their bug control in the fruit section.

Thank goodness for the excellent airconditioning and the pools. The poolside snack bar provides excellent lunches and light dinners and is a good spot to relax after work. The waitstaff in this area were also worth a mention for being friendly and helpful.

Booking your accommodation on one of the many discount websites is cheaper than booking at the counter if you intend to extend your stay.

  • Liked — The poolside snackbar and swimming pools.
  • Disliked — The locals trading out of the hotel.

We have just spent a week in Darwin. The Mirambeena Resort Darwin is a fantastic place to stay. It is in the CBD area but darwin is not like a busy hussle and bussle city everything is at a good pace. The Mall is approx 250m away the ocean is 300m away, Woolworths just across the street cinema and restaraunts 200m. The resort has great pools and spa's. The rooms are huge with plenty of room for everything. The staff are friendly and helpfull. If there is a down side the standard rooms if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor do not have lifts or elevators. Had a great time, great place to stay for couples or family's.

  • Liked — location and quality
  • Disliked — no lifts for standard rooms

We booked the Mirambeena despite average reviews on Trip Advisor because Sky City was booked. While the lobby and pool areas are nice, the rooms are average at best. Although the room was an adequate size, and suited us just fine, the furniture and linens were in need of some refurbishing. Perhaps the razor wire around the entire outside of the property should have tipped us off. We were told that it was to keep the younger vacationers from sneaking their friends in. It is close to downtown Darwin, but most of the hotels are since there is only a small downtown area. The rooms were well insulated, so for the most part they were quiet. Our major problem with the hotel is that the staff had absolutely no clue what they were doing at any point in time on any day of the week - they failed to check us in properly, pass on messages left at the desk and give notice of faxes. The person checking in next to us was irate, showing a email notification of his booking that had already been paid for up front, while the staff member apologized and said that they simply had no more room that weekend. The internet was $11 for 60 consecutive minutes or $27/day. TIP: Ask for an extra key fob to leave in the energy conservation key hole. If you remove the key to go out it cuts off the electricity to the room - which is the point - except that you will be resetting your clock every time you get back and your phone doesn't ring. They wouldn't give us two keys (insisting we could be let in by the front desk if we separated), but they would give us another fob. Perhaps someone should explain to the Mirambeena that not everyone is on Spring Break.

Stayed for 2 nights. As arrived at 6am and check in not til 12 noon was worried that would be hanging around but by 6.30am they gave me (and another couple who arrived early) room so this made it feel like 3 nights stay!

Room was comfortble and spacious (was deluxe room), bed comfy and bathroom clean.

Pool area clean although slightly annoying that pool bar pumped out radio all day, would prefer some peace while relaxing.

Staff all helpful, would recommend for short break and budget.

Three Nights at the Mirambeena, Desk Staff great, had breakfast vouchers, but the lady in the kitchen looked and acted like she would rater be somewhere else - desperately!

Room was adequate thought beds were damp, and bathroom was in desperate need of a refurb.

Being wet season (and tropical cyclone central) our party mourned the lives of three umbrellas, and got thoroughly soaked on our way to and from our rooms. Some more cover on the walk ways would have helped, but admittedly can't do much when rain comes up and sideways!

We stayed in the Mirambeena Resort for a total of 3 nights. It didn't appear to be like the photographs on the webb site...perhaps it was just really good photography or a little airbrushing! The rooms were adequate. It was in the process of receiving some much needed TLC. However in its favour it was clean and it was in an ideal area. Only a 10 minute walk to the main shopping area and just across Cavenagh Street was a Woolworths where you could buy food and toiletries etc if needed.

Stayed in the townhouse for slightly more than a week. Location is good, opposite Woolworth, very convenient especially we cooked most of the time. Paid AUD169 per townhouse, which sleeps 6 person (1 Q bed upstairs and 2 sofa bed downstairs, there were 2 single bed in the store but not too sure if usable!). For that amount of $, would think that this apt is above average in terms of service and quality of room, do not expect 4 or 5 star standard.

  • Liked — Opposite Woolworth!
  • Disliked — There was some damp smell in one of the townhouse we stayed.
