“The Vibe is nice, especially with a discount”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2010

I spent two nights at the Vibe Hotel in Darwin. I got some sort of special deal for about $90/night U.S. (I found the deal on the hotel's web site), and at that rate it was well worth it. This is a high-rise hotel right on Darwin Harbor. My room (and maybe all the rooms?) overlooked the harbor, the city wave pool and the city swimming lagoon, so if you have kids with you I'm guessing they will love the location of this hotel (almost all the people in the crowded wave pool were kids). There was a huge landscaped lawn between the hotel and the lagoon, with quite a few people lounging on the grass or sitting on the benches.

There is a guest workout room, and a fairly small swimming pool. But then not far away from the pool is the swimming lagoon and wave pool.

Available to guests and non-guests are computers with pay-for-view Internet access.

The room itself was very nice in the way that most fairly upscale hotels are nice. Although it wasn't terribly memorable. The hotel has at least one restaurant, although I didn't eat there, and they do have room service (pricey!).

The hotel is only about a 10 minute walk from downtown with its nice outdoor shopping mall and restaurants.

I can think of nothing negative to say about this place, and again, for $90 per night (U.S.) it was a super, super deal.

We recently stayed at the Vibe before heading back to Melbourne after a trip around Kakadu. This place was really good. Like anywhere else in NT, you're going to pay a lot for accommodation, but at least if it's good then you don't mind so much. We got a waterview room with a balcony and it was a lovely way to end our trip. The beds are really comfy, but I'd have to say the only downside was really pricey wireless internet - with the prices of the hotels in Darwin (we stayed at two in the city) they should be offering free or at least reasonably priced internet access. The Wharf is the place to go for food, so many options. If we went back to Darwin we'd stay here.

I had big expections about the Vibe as it is pretty new and it seems really nice. However I was quite disappointed.
The check in was very hasty and I was not given any information on how to reach my room, parking, check out time or anyhting really. At least for a first visit that can be handy. To got to our room we had to walk in a quite long corridor and then we finally found our room with the lovely view of a WALL. Very disappointing as the hotel would not have been booked out. First impression of the room by us both was how spartan it was. The had a modern style but I felt that something was missing, the room seemed "cold/bare".
Bathroom was very small and if you opened the door while someone was in there you would've hit them.
A big minus was that the room did not provide a jug for water. Probably a way to sell bottled water.
My booking included a bottle of wine which they did not inform me about at the check in and at check out I had to tell that it was included so they would not charge me (it was in their system but for them not to charge me they had to write it on an individual list.)
Now to the positive things about this place. The bed is very firm with comfy pillows. The cleaners did a good job keeping the room clean and the location is good for the city centre. It is also next to the wave pool and swimming area which might be a good thing if you are in to that or staying with your kids. Another big plus is the free parking.
I would say that this place is ok for a night but not for a longer stay, basically cause it is not a nice room to chill and relax in.

We got in after dark and could not find the hotel, because it is not called Hotel Darwin Waterfront but Vibe in bright neon, and we finally stopped there to ask where the Hotel Darwin Waterfront was and they told us we were there. I think they changed the name to Vibe because they're so awful that this is how they can continue to stay in business. We had to go through a labyrinth drive at the next door garage up 6 floors ($80 if you lose the garage card) to get to our 2nd floor hotel room, and couldn't get back into the garage because the electronic security was broken on the door. Nor could a hotel employee get us through. We would have liked to complain about the garage view out our window -- we'd envisioned sipping champagne on a balcony overlooking water, but it would have taken 10 minutes to get to the hotel lobby. Whyy would a hotel give anyone the absolute worst room in a hotel when hundreds of water view rooms were available? We found in Australia that the more expensive the accomodation, the more the hotel tries to wring every penny out of your wallet. Internet service is another $12 an hour, and so on... This hotel was the worst of the 25 places we stayed at in that regard.

As hotel prices in Darwin are really expensive, we booked the cheapest rooms we could find for this hotel on a discount web site. We were a bit apprehensive about what they would be like. We didn't expect a view and didn't get one although most rooms in the hotel had a great view over the newly developed harbour area. The rooms were spacious and well furnished. We found the staff polite and helpful. A small housekeeping problem was quickly rectified. There was easy walking access to the city via an overhead walkway and a number of restaurants in close proximity. We would certainly stay there again if we visit Darwin.

We stayed at Vibe Hotel on the recommendation of a friend, on the last few days of our holiday in NT and we loved it. Very modern hotel, attractively appointed, quiet, warm and friendly staff, very comfortable rooms, great view across wharf precinct and very convenient location close to city and all key tourist attractions. Our room was very comfortable and we couldn't fault it. We enjoyed being in a quieter and more spacious corner of the city right on the water but within easy striking distance of the rest of the city. We enjoyed being able to walk to a great restaurant, Il Lido at the end of the waterfront area right on the water (had just opened when we were there).

Great position on the waterfront, very close to the city center, very quiet, the only bad point is the AC which couldn't be switched off...
Comfortable rooms, very clean, we loved it.
