“Very quiet hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Stayed 2 nights 17 / 19 March Booked standard room upgraded to deluxe room, very nice. Some of the blocks looked a bit sad but we had a room in single storey block. 2 huge beds and a beautiful bathroom and balcony. Like other reviewers I also found it very expensive.
The sky at night was breathtaking, I could almost feel that I could touch the stars. There is a free shuttle bus that goes around the different.hotels on site, one of which has a barbecue area. You buy the meat at the shop and cook it your way. There is also some entertainment.

Room Tip: Single storey rooms seem to be a better choice .

We stayed 3 nights over Easter in a Deluxe room (complimentary upgrade). Room was tidy, clean and newly finished. Easy access to all resort activities in town square, supermarket etc. The restaurant food was excellent for the isolation - we could not fault it and we are picky - extremely picky!

The only positive about this hotel was the comfortable bed and the location. The room itself was tired and in desparate need of an update. Old, chipped vanity in the bathroom, old plastic furniture on the balcony, the light outside our room was broken so we couldn't see when we came back at night. Staff left a dirty pile of sheets and towels outside our door for over 15 hours. Staff did not leave a message for us or try to contact us on mobile when our Sounds of Silence dinner was cancelled, they waited until we were dressed and waiting in the lobby for pickup, even though they'd known since the morning. I rarely splash out on expensive hotels and was so disappointed with this.

Dear jazzybabe666
Thank you for your review.

It is pleasing to read that you enjoyed the location of our hotel and our comfortable beds.

I would like to extend my apologies for the bed sheets that were left outside your door and the lack of communication regarding your Sounds of Silence tour cancellation. Both incidents are certainly not a normal reflection of our product and service. Please be assured both matters have been address accordingly with the managers involved

As you probably notice a refurbishment program has begun at Ayers Rock Resort with Sails in the Desert the most recently refurbished property. An infrastructure upgrade is currently nearing completion at Desert Gardens. Once complete attention with focus on rooms and public areas.

Once again thank you for your review and I wish you all the best in your future travels.

Kind Regards

I know that a lot of people have given this hotel bad ratings, but I liked it. It was a nice room, and had a view of Uluru.

short walk to shopping, and all the ATT Kings tours pick you up right at the lobby.

yes, it is expensive, but I understand that being in the middle of the desert it is expensive to run the hotel.

I have no complaints about the hotel, and would stay here again if I ever made it back to Uluru

Room Tip: book a rock view room

We picked this hotel over Sails in the Desert because it offered direct views over Ayers Rock and was still advertised as a 4.5 star hotel. We were hoping to spend 4 relaxing days away.

They didn't lie about the view but the quality of the accommodation is like that of a motel. The room cleaning is basic, the bar fridge not refilled, the decor dated complete with cheap white plastic chairs on the balcony.

The entire resort looks like it's been built in the 80s and hardly updated - apart from Sails in the Desert. The nicer a la carte restaurant at Sails is shut until June. The other a la carte restaurant in Desert Gardens offers decent food but in a space that feels more like an RSL.
Tonight it's even better. All the restaurants are booked apart from the dodgy cafe in the Town square - only recommended if you enjoy cold stale bread on your burgers.

Definitely not coming back. Stay only enough time to visit Ayers Rock and the Olgas, forget about enjoying the resort amenities.

Dear Margouille
Thank you for your review.

Our rock view rooms are extremely popular as they provide a spectacular view.

It is wonderful to read of your enjoyable meal at our signature restaurant Arnguli Grill however I found it saddening to understand that the décor was not to your satisfaction as we are readily praised for the ambience created by our collection of indigenous art works and view out on to our pool.

To read of your displeasure with the room furnishings is disappointing. As you may have noticed the resort is going through varying stages of refurbishment. Sails in the Desert full refurbishment have just been completed. Work has begun on Desert Gardens with infrastructure the initial focus. Rooms will start to be addressed mid 2013.

I would like to extend my apologies for your min bar not being restocked during your stay. Your comments have been communicated to our housekeeping team constructively enabling them to better improve their service.

Once again thank you for your review and I wish you all the best in your future travels.

Kind Regards

We booked a De Luxe Rock view room. The view was good. Nothing else was. Almost no hot water. No water pressure so you could not fill the bath or take a decent hot shower( so important after a long hot drive). A stained carpet matched the dirty chipped unclean stairs up to our room. A grey pubic hair greeted us on the toilet seat. the ants in our bedroom were an inevitable consequence of the poor cleaning.
what comes across is poor management and a policy of employing young inexperienced and probably poorly paid staff. The charming presentable receptionist who greeted us had lamentable English skills.
The hotel was managed on the principle of a large capital investment when built years ago, with money recouped by employing sub standard cleaners and supervisors but absolute maximum charges for everything. TheHotel is expensive enoug: it is probably worth paying more still to go to the neighbouring more expensive ones

Dear Denisenathan
Thank you for your review.

I am pleased to read of your enjoyment with your view of Ayers Rock from the comfort of your room.

At Desert Gardens Hotel we have strict housekeeping procedures in place to ensure that our guest rooms are presented and cleaned to the highest of standards. It is certainly disappointing to read your housekeeping concerns. Please be assured these concerns have been addressed with the appropriate manager.

Regarding the pressure of your hot water this is an unusual concern and definitely not normal reflection of our product and service. If reported, our maintenance team would have endeavoured to rectify or a room move would have been arrange.

We pride ourselves on providing all staff with extensive training and incentive programmes which aid in our endeavour to provide our guest with the highest standard of customer service.

Once again thank you for your review and I wish you all the best in your future travels.

As I suspect is the case with everyone we chose to stay here with the sole purpose of visiting the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
It is a part of a purpose built resort consisting of a number of hotels/restaurants & small shopping area. It appears to be the only settlement for miles around so when visiting the area your choice is essentially limited to one of these hotels. We chose the Desert Gardens as we felt it looked to offer reasonable accomodation for reasonable value. If you compare it to hotels elsewhere in Australia then yes it is very expensive but again you have to expect to pay for the location.
We hired a car from the small Ayers Rock airport - essential I would say although there are resort shuttles available. It was then a short drive to the hotel. There was ample parking even for our 4x4. Reception was a little crowded as I think the flights & therefore guests all seem to hit around the same time - however we found the staff to be efficient & were fortunate enough to be able to get an early check-in.
The rooms are arranged in the style of a motel with the doors opening directly to exterior corridors. We were upstairs which was fine for us but there did not seem to be any lifts in our block so disabled travellers may wish to request a room on the ground floor.
The room was basic but functional - the fridge was very handy! There was a steady stream of ants outside our door but fortunately none came in & what do you expect of the red centre.
It was further than you think to drive to Uluru & Kata Tjtutu but the roads are good with plenty of places to stop & enjoy the view.
I cannot comment on the other amenities offered by the hotel as we only stayed for one night.
In conclusion we felt this hotel was perfectly suited to a visit to Uluru - yes the whole resport could do with a bit of upgrading but as I said location is key.
