“Beautiful and Very Clean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

We were on a tour and we stayed at this hotel for three nights.
The room was spacious, clean, beautiful and new. The beds were very comfortable too. Breakfast served at the hotel was good, from Western to Chinese to Asian.
It was cold in June so we did not use the swimming pool but it looks nice and it looked well maintained.
The hotel was within walking distance to a nearby mall too.

I will stay there again!

It seems that there are various hotels & camp grounds permitted to operate within Ayers Rock Resort & while staying at "Sails" my wife and I, went for a walk to compare ours with the others.
We think we chose well, particularly the Hotel entrance, foyer & dining areas are more impressive, the pool & gardens are more spacious & rooms seemingly equipped for business meetings too.

Now for the downside. The place allegedly has been renovated & while it is obvious what's been done, my gripe is with the bare external room corridors. They look as they're trades & service routes rather than guest's thoroughfares. Some plant pottery, or wall decorations would be welcomed. An issue with ants inviting themselves to our complimentary coffee & tea, reminded us of our desert surrounds & backdoor lapping sand dune. First in best dressed, I guess. Squeaky, over starched bed sheets might be a sign of luxury & quality, but I can't sleep with that ''chip packet'' noise.

We loved our bougainvillea boardered balcony, the breakfast & dining lounge(but pricey if not in a package), the pool & gardens areas, not too far proximity to the village square(3 minutes walk from the foyer, 7 minutes from our room(furthest room)) & 1 hour free internet in the public areas.
Loved our stay

We stayed at Sails in the Desert for three nights, two with our children and then one as a couple.

Whilst the property is now looking a little worn, the service is excellent. Superbly comfortable and quiet accommodation with wonderful beds and exquisitely clean linen.

If you are visiting Uluru, you must expect that the remoteness will translate to higher costs, given the need to transport all supplies from coastal Australia. However, the pain of the bill is largely offset by the superb service.

There are a good range of excellent eating options and diverse activities on offer. There is a large and well maintained pool which some braver souls were using. Given that we were visiting in mid winter, we passed up the chance.

Highly recommended for a touch of luxury before setting out on a desert trek!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms seemed most convenient

The hotel room was enormous with 2 queen sized beds and a large veranda. Very comfortable and well equipped. Good bathroom.

We used the hotel's spa for a pre-booked facial and massage. Both were excellent.

Hotel breakfast was excellent, but they seemed to struggle in the evening with the volume of people. I also liked the fact you could charge your room from anywhere in the resort.

And Uluru itself is awesome.

Room Tip: First floor pool facing rooms have privacy and a large veranda.

Nice enough hotel and the room that we finally got was very nice and a very comfortable bed, but I really question the 5 star rating. Service was very poor. Reception did not ask if we would like a hand with our bags, just gave us a map and find your own way (5 star?). Tray of left over food from our room service left outside our room all day, so much for "please do not leave food around, due to mice" as written in the hotel booklet. "Interactive dining" really means buffet meal, and a very poor one at that, piece of sirloin was about as thin a piece of paper. Waiter clicking his biro as he told us the specials of the day, nice touch. It was those little things that did not make this a memorable stay, especially when the cost is not cheap, you really did not get value for money. The toiletries were not replaced either. But I would like to say thank you to the staff member who made our stay by listening and changing the room we were in. Thanks!!! We have stayed in a 5 star before, and I guess I was expecting that the service and quality was going to be of a very high standard, guess that is why I was disappointed. Especially seeing that we drove there and it took us a week!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony it is a more pleasant outlook.

We got a good Escape package 3 night deal including Breakfast. The room was great and spotlessly clean, breakfasts of a good standard & the hotel itself was very pleasant. Best of all though were the beds....so comfortable and the best sleep of our 3 week holiday. Given that this is the top hotel in the Resort (leaving aside Longitude) I was disappointed on two counts. 1) I expect staff to acknowledge guests when walking past them for example in the grounds of the hotel. To me, it's a common courtesy and some did, but then again, many didn't. 2) Please sort out the housekeeping. The cleaning of the rooms themselves was fine...you just should not have to wait until 4pm for this to happen. There's 200+ rooms but on both days, we were disappointed it took persistent chasing for our room to get serviced. It was all the more frustrating as we did Desert Awakenings on day one-a note was placed through the door the night before advising our room would be cleaned in our absence due to being on the tour. On our return....nada, nothing, zip. We rang to get this rectified and three hours later, still nothing. Similar story the next day too. The matter was addressed by the Guest Services Mgr, but it should not even come to that. 4pm to service a room ? Really ? Anyhow, those issues aside, I would recommend staying here, especially if you can geta good deal.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have massive terrace with loads of seating.
