“Two nights was long enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Arrived after flight from Sydney. Everyone on flight would be staying at one of the three hotels in this area and have complimentary shuttle from the airport. Consequently everyone turning up at check in at the same time, the queue was long and hot. Not sure they can do anything about it, they have several people on desk but the check in process is long as your pre-booked tours are checked and the sales pitch to sell you more all takes time. Accommodation was adequate, very basic motel style rooms but with an excellent aircon which we were very grateful for. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, just not to my taste. There is nothing to do in the area apart from the organised tours to the Rock and surrounding areas for walks or camel rides. The heat and the flies were unbearable when we were there so were glad when our two days were over although this is not a fault of the hotel. Overall I enjoyed the experience and got to visit a very iconic place, but another time would probably try one of the other hotels.

Hello JanetRob

We certainly have had many comments on the flies this year. I believe they have been at their worst for many years from what most of the locals are telling me. The flies have definitely reduced in numbers now as the weather is cooling off. From reading your review, I’m not sure whether you were made aware of the free activates that normally get hosted in the town square as they are also a good way to see some of the indigenous arts and dances. As you have enjoyed your visit to the Red Centre I would assume that the booked tours you have used where to your satisfaction and would like to thank you for taking your time to leave feedback on your experience.

We stayed in a standard room for two nights. The room was basic but decent. However, dining options near this hotel were few, basically just the BBQ restaurant (where you cook your own meal) and the Outback Pioneer Kitchen. A 3rd restaurant, the Bough House, was closed during our stay. We ended up driving over to the Town Square area for better choices. All of the other Yulara hotels are located there. We did eat lunch at the Outback Pioneer Kitchen on the day of our arrival. The chicken avocado baguette I ordered did not have a trace of avocado.

In hind sight, I think we would have been happier at the Emu Walk Apartments. They are similar in price to the Outback Pioneer, and they are near the visitor center and Town Square where there is shopping and better restaurants. It is pretty expensive to stay anywhere in Yulara, but bring extra cash if you want to avoid the 1.5% transaction fee that is added to anything charged to a credit card. Wi-fi is extra as well.

Hello Carol325

Thanks for leaving feedback regarding your stay. I will most definitively follow up with the kitchen regarding your order from the Kiosk. As for the layout of the Ayers Rock resort area, there are definitely more facilities located at the town square, which is why a courtesy bus runs between these areas on a regular basis. As you mentioned the Emu Walk Apartments are also a very good option for anyone looking to stay and to be a little be more central.

This was my 5th visit to this hotel and it did not disappoint, the accommodation of is a good standard with large rooms which are clean and well furnished the bathrooms are spacious and well equipped.
I ate at the BBQ and a wide selection of self cook meats were available, many of them native meats i.e., kangaroo, emu sausages etc., the salads were good and the dessert was also nice, being Uluru you must expect to pay a little more but well worth the visit.

I stayed at the Outback Pioneer at the end of February with my wife. We had a night in Alice Springs before 2 nights in this hotel. The Hilton we did not expect but we did get a comfortable, clean room. All facilities were clean and tidy. A free internet would have been nice but this is the Outback! A fly net was very useful outside but I didn't expect the Hotel to be able to rid Australia of flies! After dark the BBQ's were great and the food provided to cook on them was excellent. Salads and deserts were also provided in the price. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to other people who are looking for a basic, no frills, base for their Outback experience.

Room Tip: Look for one away from the Pool and Bar area if you want peace and quiet at all times. Go closer if...

We stayed 2 nights after a night in Alice and a night in Kings Canyon. It took us 4 hours to drive from Kings Canyon with a long stop for lunch at the quirky but fun Curtin Springs Station. It was great to arrive in time for a swim and chill-out in the large pool before our first sunset visit to Uluru.

Yulara is a huge complex with a range of accommodation options for all tastes but it seems everyone can enjoy all the amenities, shops, bars and restaurants on offer throughout. There's even a small shopping centre with a good sized supermarket, petrol station, cafes and other shops (clothes, cameras, souvenirs etc). Our en suite room was large, quiet, comfortable and typically well-equipped - perfect for our stay. We enjoyed the excellent and great value self-cook BBQ on our first night (most meat options with unlimited salad bar plus dessert cost just $20-30 pp and some couples shared one portion!). The second night we splurged out on the amazing Sounds of Silence Dinner in the Bush - a real highlight of our Oz trip. Oh yeh, and Uluru and Kata Tjuta are amazing too!

The pool was a most welcome place to cool down and relax between activities and to get out of the heat and flies! There are so many activities on offer that check-in was mesmerising. We had to sit by the pool and read all the brochures before deciding what to select and returning to the helpful Reception staff to ask further questions before booking.

Just a word of warning about the airport. There's nothing there (land side) except a drinks machine, so try and time any car rental return to leave minimal time there - it's only a 10 minute drive from the resort. Unfortunately, due to our flight time into Alice Springs, we would have had to pay for an additional day so we spent 2-3 hours at the airport. Fortunately, the Airport Security Staff were wonderful and allowed us to pass through after security checking to the airside cafe for provisions. Big thanks to them!

We arrived at the Outback Pioneer Hotel and Lodge hoping for a comfortable base for exploring Uluru. We got that and more. The hotel upgraded us to a deluxe room and offered us breakfast coupons at a discounted rate. This hotel is a more affordable option for seeing Uluru than some of the others in that neck of the woods (or desert).
