“Good B & B for birders”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

Pleasant B & B well located if you have your own transport. Owner is keen on birds and you should get to watch him hand feed Splendid Wrens. Uwe offers good advice on local places to visit. Apparently he used to run his own tours.

The owner Uwe has created a pristine natural environment here. The gardens are full of birds and scented trees - a place to spend time rather than rush off to do outback tours. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The only drawback is that it's about 6km from town and you need Uwe to drive you there and back (for a fee) every time you need to buy something or book a tour. The breakfast is fantastic and Uwe is an interesting guy who escaped communist east Germany to have a number of adventures.

Stayed here twice - once when arriving in Alice and again just before leaving. What an amazing place! Uwe has built a sanctuary for both birds and people. Even just stepping on this property is very restful. We stayed in both the cottage and a room with shared bathroom and both were extremely clean and great value. Uwe himself is lovely - a larger than life character who makes the place very homey.

It is located half way between the airport and the city center, and for us it was perfect since we had a car. Very easy to drive to town for dinner.

I would definitely stay here again - so much more personality and charm than staying at one of the big hotels!

totally unexpected..tranquility and lots of green a few km outside Alice springs and not far from the airport Uwe the owner was extreemly helpful (and patient) even in the early stages of my planning when i bombarded him with copious questions. A comfortable room and good food, I stayed a night only because i had no time would have loved to stay longer to enjoy the birds and garden.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

My husband and I (40's no kids) stayed 5 nights here in July and then decided an extra night because it was so good. Uwe the owner was incredibly helpful with giving us suggestions of special things to see off the beaten track - including itineraries of what order to see the gorges/gaps to get the most of the colours. They were worth every minute. He is very proud of what he has done to the place over the years. It is a little oasis.

Breakfast was simple but good. I do miss a hot breakfast, but the warm (depending on time you get there) croissants and bread were great. He kept offering us food for afternoon tea and there was a dinner menu but didn't take him up as we were out a lot of the time.

He had a lot of people staying there but we didn't even realise. He was there when you needed him and didn't see him or other guests the rest of the time. We were staying in the cottage. Quaint external architecture and practical inside. We had a bit of trouble getting the room warm (HINT air con use the ceiling fan as well to draw the heat down into the room). The oil heater really didn't do a thing, but the bed had more than adequate blankets. The cottage kitchen was basic but we really didn't plan to eat there anyway. Shower was spacious with good water pressure and heat. Ensuite size generally was typically average.

If we ever come back to Alice Springs - which I hope we do - we would definitely stay here without hesitation.

Room Tip: Cottage is great, don't know about the rooms in the house.

My wife and I live in central Australia and visit Alice Springs often, we have tried diffrent hotels in Alice Springs but we found Pathdorf the best for us. It is quiet with beautiful gardens, the cottage we stayed in was awesome. The owner Uwe is very friendly and kind and went out of his way to make our stay welcome and comfortable. My wife and I are vegan and the breakfast had plenty of fruit, cereals, whole grain bread and soy milk. We have already booked our next stay there!!. We highly recomend Pathdorf to anyone going to Alice Springs.

Room Tip: The cottage is in the middle of the garden and very private and quiet

We spent Christmas at Pathdorf b&b. Our host Uwe was very nice and helpful; he arranged two nice tours, to Ayers' Rock and Mac Donnell National Park. He was also a wonderfull cook; his Pathdorf Burger was the best! We will never forget this experience in the outback!
