“Extraordinary!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

This is a lovely, cozy B&B. The walls display fine Aboriginal art, flower arrangements are interesting and well proportioned, and fresh roses from the garden are about. Of course A Good Rest is spotlessly clean, the towels huge and fluffy and the sheets ironed, yet there is so much more. The back yard is a haven of grass, garden, and cozy shaded sitting areas, lit with fairy lights at night. There is a even a pool. Yet these things are not what makes this an extraordinary B&B.
If there is such a thing, Margaret and Alf are natural-born B&B owners. If they ever want a change from running their own, they can open a school for prospective B&B owners and it will be Ivy League. Talking to Margaret is like talking to an old friend, and she is able and willing to go above and beyond in making your stay comfortable. She and Alf are free and easy with information and chat. We got to talking and ended up going out to dinner with them, because it's just that easy to be around them. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a bedroom in the house. However, there is a private villa out back.

We had a wonderful stay at this very well run and hospitable B &B. Immaculately clean, great breakfast, with nibbles and wine in the evening. Alf and Margaret are great hosts and really go out of their way for their guests. We were treated more like friends than customers. We stayed in the house (rather than the villa). Room was great with fresh flowers and ironed sheets! The bathroom was huge with a spa. There is a swimming pool and a wonderful patio with a gazebo in the back.. We were given excellent advice about restaurants and sites in the area. It is in a quiet part of town and not far from the city centre.

Marg and Alf were most hospitable hosts in their spotlessly clean and accommodating establishment.
The B and B lives up to all its reviews. We stayed in the house on our first night and in the Villa our second night. The Villa is first class and worth the rate. We were a little taken a back at the rate for the rooms inside as they were small and had no ensuite.
We would have no hesitation in recommending A Good Rest to anyone. Marg and Alf's help and hospitality is priceless! However, Marg,in your pursuit of excellence, whilst inspirational, could be deemed as invasive by some travellers

A nice place to stay, not that far away from the center of Alice Springs (about 30-40 min walk). The property has amazing amenities in and outside (nice looking pool, spa and bathroom).

But most striking was the friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts. They seem to know the area really well, and were giving me some great recommendations. In short, a good place to relax just before or after your trip to the Outback.

We spent 3 nights in Alice and had a truly good rest! The villa is a very big room with a little kitchenette, a sitting area, a queen and single bed. It has a separate laundry room and a bathroom. Plenty of space for our family of 3. Margaret keeps everything spotlessly clean! The outdoor area is a little paradise with amazingly green grass, a pool, a spa and a nice sitting area. We had the hardest time getting our five-year-old son out of the pool, especially after Margaret was so fantastic as to invite her grandsons over to play with him. What a special touch! The question whether the camel ride or the pool was more fun was answered without hesitation: the pool!
Margaret and Alf gave us great tips where to go, when and what to watch out for. Margaret offered us a cooler for water and food for our trip to the mountain range. She even offered to pack a picnic lunch.
Both were fantastic hosts. We enjoyed our stay very much!

What a wonderful B&B! Convenient to drive to, easy to find, comfortable, extremely clean and so well appointed - bathroom is very decadent. And it is dog friendly. Hosts Margaret and Alf are awesome people and great hosts. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is exactly what you want. Can't recommend highly enough. Great as it is central to all Alice Springs sites and tourist activities.

I stayed here for a couple of nights before and after a trip to Uluru. Margaret and Alf looked after me tremendously well and I thoroughly enjoyed being smothered with care. They wouldn't let me take a taxi, drove me into the town, provided me with lunch and gave me wine, breakfast was whatever I wanted and I couldn't think of anything else they could have done. Margaret even wanted to do my washing.

The accommodation was great, beautifully prepared, faultlessly cleaned and an extremely hiigh standard. I enjoyed the pool and spa.

A really friendly place to stay and I couldn't have been better looked after
