What is better than a Masala Dosai followed by a South Indian Curry washed down with champagne? This was one of our recent 'best' lunch experiences! So, what makes a 'best lunch' experience? Was it the cuisine? Was it the ambiance? Was it service? It was all of that, plus that ephemeral something extra. The menu is compact, competent and more than adequate choices. The ambiance of Malabar is worth a mention. The decor is tasteful modern glass and chrome juxtaposed with floor to ceiling blown up black and white Raj photos, and scattered appropriate artefacts. The something extra was the manager himself. He masterminded our dining experience without intrusiveness. A difficult balance, we were putty in his hands. When the manager saw that we were having fun with the wall paper and our iPhones and Pads, he gave us a turban to play around with. We loved his sense of fun and felt immediately ten times happier. Malabar has two restaurants, this one is on Victoria Street at the Kings Cross end of Darlinghurst. We had lunch here, so parking was not an issue. Access is easy by train (Kings Cross station), by bus or by car. Will we return? Yes we are all moving in. We want to live there!
