“Great view, shame about the price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The only tables worth having are outside, for the view. The view and the service are very good, however $17 for a glass of Pinot is poor value. The food was ok, but compared with other seafood places, the food is average due to the price. However, it is worth going here, just for the view, and if you get a table outside, otherwise forget it.

Maybe go towards mid\night and get a table outside and just go for a drink

“Disappointment with the lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We had a set lunch with a group of colleagues on Thursday 14 March 2013. Whereas the wines - Cloud Bay bubbly, Sauvignon Blanc and a very fine and smooth red wine from the decanter - were excellent, the meals were quite ordinary. Except for the Tasmanian salmon which was excellent, the entree of Balmain Bugs was fairly tasteless - the bug "bits" on the plate looked like they'd been taken from a freezer and heated and two prawns were also on the plate, apparently to compensate for the lack of Bug. The accompanying salad and vegies to go with the main were fresh and delicious, but again the desert of frangipani tart tasted OK but really not any better than one might buy from a quality commercial patisserie. My colleague had a chocolate mousse-like desert and that was delicious, albeit a tiny portion. Would have liked a selection of gourmet gelato or icecream such as offered by Serendipity or Alpino Gelati. Coffee was excellent.

“Beautiful views and local hot spot. .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This restaurant was suggested to us and it is the local hip spot in Sydney for dinner. Make a reservation well in advance of your arrival. Food is pretty average but you don't go to Sydney for the food. . .. but it's high energy ambiance and location in the Customs House make it a fun experience. We had a table of 8 so we made our own fun. Not quite sure it deserves all its accolades. . seems pretty basic to me. Location is it's strong suit. .

“Top Shelf Prices For A Disappointing Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Other reviews are definitely right about the view - as long as you get a good seat! We were a few rows back from the window and, arriving before the lunchtime rush, got to enjoy the view unobstructed until the end of our entrees when other people were seated in front of us. Having booked well in advance, it being a weekday and my boyfriend advising him when we booked that it was our anniversary, I was a little disappointed to miss out on the view for most of our meal.

Many of the tables are also very close together, the wait staff have to turn sideways to slip between the packed-in rows. Combined with the fact that our cloth-less table was sticky, it wasn't a particularly intimate atmosphere.

Our entrees were amazing, but the mains were quite small, only a few prawns on my partner's plate and my dish was mostly pork (sausage, belly, loin) with a little bit of pumpkin, cabbage and a smear of puree. Expect to need three courses to feel full. The dessert platter was very underwhelming, we actually saw it sitting up at the pass in front of the kitchen for while, with the ice cream and sorbets on the plate already mostly melted by the time it reached our table.

The staff were lovely but we did feel rushed to get finished and out of the restaurant. They didn't even ask if we wanted coffees, bringing the bill to our table before our dessert plates had even been cleared and without us asking for it. I appreciate intuitive staff, but it really felt like they wanted us out of there.

On the whole, it felt like we paid a lot of money for a dining experience we could have gotten in many places in the city at a much cheaper price. My expectations were definitely high because of the reviews on here, and perhaps I am a little harsh because of this, but I went away disappointed and not in any hurry to return.

“A Must When In Sydney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

This one of my all-time favorite dining experiences! The views and food are equally perfection! I have dined here more than a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Perfect for a romantic dinner for 2 or small groups! Relaxed sophistication. Be sure to book well in advance!
