I love High Tea. One of my all time favourite things to do. I have been here a few times and unfortunately remember the experience being better than that of the weekend just gone.
I can't fault the waitstaff or manager. They were great. The sparkling was lovely, Tea is tea and it too was enjoyable... however the food was a significant let down. The scones and the spinach and cheese savoury piece was lovely but everything else was very poor.
The sweets were either bland or sickly sweet and the sandwiches (my fave part of high tea) were short on supply. There should be two of each sandwich similar to how the sweets are arranged. There was one of each bland sandwich and a waitress came by with two more tuna sandwiches (basic tuna, from the can, nothing noticeable added). High tea is all about the sandwiches and if you feel the same, I recommend a five star hotel or the Victoria Room in Darlinghurst.
The room and the china are of course beautiful and elegant. I also was in excellent company, sadly the food was a massive disappointment. Slightly interesting sandwiches with enough for two would have made a world of difference. Also, if a dessert is described as having a cherry and chocolate flavour it would help if both the chocolate and cherry flavour was present.
Such a shame, as I am certain I have enjoyed the food and service before... but bland summed up the whole experience unfortunately.
