“TERRIBLE OVER PRICED FOOD”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

Was looking for a place to satisfy my steamed dumpling craving and thought I would give this place a go. Don't bother. The dumplings were not even warm and wasn't fresh. We also ordered salt and pepper squid which tasted like it was reheated and the squid was rubberly and chewy. The boiled rice came out to the table in an old plastic canister container which looked like it was brought from home. Will definitely not be going back to this place. Food was over priced for the quality of food that was served. I wanted to warn people who were about to go into this restaurant to run away while they can.

“Average restaurant in busy China Town.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Desperate for lunch - hungry - influenced by elderly lady touting for business out the front of the restaurant. The day had seen some very heavy showers and initially we were seated in an exposed location outside the restaurant, however, almost as soon as we were seated another table - undercover became available.

Service efficient, without being affable - ordered a mixture of entrees and a vegetarian vegetable plate, mixed with a couple of beers and some wine.

We were fortunate to be in the area the day before the Chinese New Year and witnessed a large dragon display on the street as we ate.

Summary; average food and service for Dixon street - high turnover - not relying upon or trying to establish repeat custom.
Would we return ? No - there are plenty of other similar restaurants all vying for your business. Sometimes you get what you pay for - and sometimes you don't.

“RUN AWAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

If I could give this restaurant 0, I would. To be honest, we didn't even get a chance to try the food because we were so appalled by the attitude of the owner. She demanded that a couple finish their drinks and pay up so that we could have the table. That was awkward. A family next to us was served cold food after waiting over an hour. When a woman enquired about when her food was going to be served, the owner told her to GO TO THE KITCHEN AND CHECK FOR HERSELF. We ordered, but after witnessing these things, booked it, aka ran, before the food was delivered and we were to become the next victims of the owner's abuse.

“Avoid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Pretty bad restaurant.Industrial food without any charm and tasteless. The soup I got was extremely small, dim sum and mail course better in terms of size but with less than average quality. Pretty expensive for what one gets. My mistake was that I judged the place on the basis of how many people were sitting – but these were probably tourist as me unaware of the poor quality.

“ABSOLUTE DISGRACE $106.00 WASTED!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

She stands out the front and hawks you in, as do most of the Restaurants in China Town and in particular on Dixon Street. We were seated outside which was our preference. Then it all turned southward. We ordered pre-dinner drinks, the waitress got them wrong and took the drink menu before we had a chance to order the wine, so we asked for the menu to be returned, that was a mistake by her attitide. Anyhow we order our meals and were taking a rest half was through when they decided it was time to clear our table, we told them we were not finished. I could see the owner on the street selling our table while we were still there. Anyhow, when we did finish, as the last piece of food left the dish over they came and whipped the table clear of crockery and cutlery. I got up to go to the toilets and over they came again and started stripping the table cloth from the table whilst my wife was still sitting at the table - yes they sold the table. The whole dining experience lasted 20 minutes. The food was terrible, chewy and tastess. Never ever ever will we visit the NEW TAI YEUEN RESTAURANT.
