“Great place, awesome facilities, very clean and good staff!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

I've stayed here on more than one occasion. The first time was back in 2008 and was for a a few months. I stayed in a double room and all the rooms have ensuites which is really good coz you don't have to worry about bathrooms being busy or whatever.

The laundry is on the 1st floor and you can use it any time you want for $3 per load which is the standard price in Sydney.

The rooms are cleaned daily (unless you put a note on your door) which means this place never has any bugs or other nasties.

When you stay a long time they will give you a really good discount if you ask.

Anthony is a legend at D Lux, he's the manager and truly truly awesome.

This is a party hostel so if you like partying then definitely stay here and definitely make the most of the nightly activities.

I loved both of my stays here and if they weren't always full I would come back.

Previously I have recommended this to two friends who have ended up staying here and one loved it, the other enjoyed it as well and did the WFA that they offer.

My husband and I love travelling and we can stay in different types of accommodation and still have a good experience. As we were travelling with two more people, in the case, our mums, we were looking for an affordable family room in Kings Cross because of the central location. So, we ended up going to the D'lux Budget Hotel.

The first impression was pretty bad, because after booking online, we had problems to check in as they said we were not booked and then they realized was their own mistake. When we finally got to our room, I felt so frustrated, the room was filthy, smelly and tacky. As I said before, we've been to many different types of accommodation and we already knew it would be pretty basic since it was really cheap. However, just because it's cheap, it doesn't mean that the fridge must be dirty and with rest of food.

Every single thing about it would be an unpleasant experience for you. Our room was close to the roof where there's a barbecue and the backpackers stays there until very late, making lots of noise, even on the hall. The receptionists are very rude and hopeless, they seemed to be more worried of entertaining the backpackers than helping us out with some info. One night we got there, and there were a group of drunk guys only wearing underwear! And the receptionists there having fun with them. we really thought was ridiculous as we were with our mums as well.

I could tell you more worse things about it but as I took some photos, I leave for your own judgment.

having read some of the reviews AFTER booking this hostel, we were really worried what to expect. however we really had a good time here. the rooms are cleaned daily and although some are messy from the guests, it is not a dirty hostel at all.
the reception staff were really good, especially one who seemed to work 24 hours a day!!! she was always so friendly and helpful each time we saw her.
the lift is really slow so getting the roof terrace could be a bit of a pain. and some of the backpackers there were always drunk so matter whether it was 9am or 9pm!
loads to do and lots of free stuff - we got to go on a boat cruise for free!

Stayed here over xmas and new year 2009/10 was a last minute thing as didnt think I was going to get anywhere in sydney at such short notice for xmas and this was the only place available, Great location, its a party hostel so if your looking to have a good time its a good place, although after xmas and new year I was broke so the having a good time feeling wore off, alot of people are living there long term... rooms are cleaned every morning kitchen is small and gets crowded the lift is a joke...!!..people kind of live in the tv room so hard to watch anything...BBQ every sat night on the rooftop good, although I think I stayed too long in the end as I hated the place when I left....

We have been travelling around Australia for a year, and so have stayed in many hostels, and have an understanding of what is good and bad...
We stayed here over christmas and new year 2009. We payed a fortune to stay here which we had to pay upfront to secure our booking in this busy period, but thought that it was the going rate for this time of year, and it looked like a good hostel so we didnt mind paying more than usual.
Our room was unclean, with stained sheets, very old looking duvets that smelt damp. No curtains, and stains on the carpet.
The kitchen facilities wernt the best, nothing was ever clean, and food always blocking the plug holes. The washers in the downstairs laundry ruined our clothes, left our clothes still dirty and left them with oil marks on them, so they are obviously never serviced, but still charge the standard rate the same as normal launderettes.he roof top balcony that they use as a selling point is not at all pleasant...it is dirty, with people urinating in corners and off the sides. We were also offered drugs while sat up there.
On one occasion during our stay, somebody let themselves into our private room at 11.30 pm, while we were in bed, to pour something down the sink. I went down to reception to complain and was basically laughed at by the receptionist and her friend, who was sat with her feet up on the desk.
The location is only ok, if you want to party in cheesy bars, and it is in the heart of the red light district. Not a very nice area overall. Very close to train station.
This place is not good, and the way they sell themselves on all the hostel bookers websites is truly false advertisment....Take our advice and stay elswhere!!

Touted as 'the best hostel experience Sydney has to offer at a great price" and "Imagine every room spacious, clean AND EVERYTHING ABSOLUTELY NEW" This was the worst accommodation I have ever had the misfortune of staying in and I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. There was nothing in the "private family room" except mushrooms growing out of the carpet! I will never stay at a backpacker again

We stayed in a double room and had a terrible 4 nights stay. We were woken up 3 nights out of the 4 by drunken people banging on our door or by the fire alarm in the middle of the night. The stairs smell of vomit and the staff is absolutely useless and rude. We saw a cockroach and even heard one of the staff saying there was a needle on the stairs. The only good thing was the price.
