We revisited this old favourite on Sunday 31 Mar 2013 and it was as good as ever.
OK, so we don't get to say hi to owner/head chef Sujet any more (he has too many other restaurants now) and we still had to put our names down for a table (a 40 minute wait), but you wait because it's great food.
If you are looking for a "big space" or a "family restaurant", you have obviously missed the point. That is not what Spice I am is or has ever claimed to be - it's small and crowded, you will bump into and get bumped into by strangers (that's part of the charm) and the staff are busy, so don't expect a chat or lengthy good-byes. This is food done the way it's done in Thailand, only they have updated the furniture (the old plastic chairs were more like genuine Thai) and the decor - it's all starting to look a bit up market - which is exactly NOT the point! And we thanked the kitchen gods that they hadn't dumbed-down the chilli - it's still quite hot.
