We chose Victoria Rooms as to something a little different in Sydney to bring some overseas friends.
We have both been there many times for cocktails & been to a few high teas & like the eclectic faded colonial style.
We checked out the menu prior to booking our table Mains $22 - $35 plus Sides $12 - $17 Deserts all $16.50.
While we read on the website "Mediterranean-inspired dishes, each moderately priced and designed to share" unfortunately we didn't realise the portions were tapas size & were a little shocked when the waitress suggested we order 8 main plates for our table of 5. I think we ordered 10 dishes, it seemed like most of the menu, along with some sides.
Firstly I would like to stress that the food was very good quality, very well presented and the waitresses were very attentive.
However there was nowhere near enough food for 5 (normal sized) adults. We were served one scollop each on a teaspoon of pea mash ($30), one small slice each (approx 8cm x 5cm & .5cm thick) of yellowfin tuna ($26), one sliver of kingfish each, We also had barramundi, duck, chicken, steak, meatballs, and others ....the standout was the mushroom side which was simply delicious!
Deserts were all delicious & to be fair, the desert servings were an ok size.
However we all honestly felt it was very overpriced for the volume of food served - & we've all been to many tapas restaurants. It is also in a portion of a small ye very busy cocktail bar, only separated by bamboo screens. So its effectively bar/pub food.
Unfortunately none of us had enough food to eat & each of us ended the evening in nearby fast food outlets, which was quite disappointing.
We will go back for high tea & cocktails but not to the restaurant, sorry guys!
