Description: Set up by Daniel Perchey and family over 12 years ago, Café Sel & Poivre is the modern French café/restaurant since 1998 that you discovered the last time you were in France with this unique bistro vibe .At Café Sel & Poivre you can experience something as authentic but closer to home. Our restaurant is more than just a café. It oozes French charm and hospitality. The menu is in both English and French and the staff are warm efficient and bilingual. The food is traditional French, from "creamy sauces" of Normandie to Provençale of the East South of France and "the cassoulet" of the South West of France... A bientot donc ! “Lovely French food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

We found this restaurant by looking on trip advisor & couldn't have been happier with our find.

The staff were friendly and helpful. For entree we shared the assiette charcuterie plate which our waiter had suggested would be adequate with the small serve. There was more than enough for us to share. For mains my husband had steak which was cooked just as he'd asked. I had the risotto which was beautiful. For dessert we shared creme brulee which was the best I've had.

We also tried French beer & wine as suggested by our waiter which were very good.

Would definetely recommend.

“One Swallow doesn't make a Summer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

This place has received great reviews from its Fan Club. We were just 'ships that passed in the night'. Maybe it was because we got off to a confused start? Yes we could have that table. We sat down. No, "maybe there is someone already sitting here"? We got up. No, the Ravel sheet music was not part of the decor. "Just sit there and see what happens". All rather unsettling. Being lunch time, we all thought we would do the French Fast Food thing and ordered Croque Madame. I wasn't expecting it to be served on a slab of white cotton wool bread, for starters, even if the egg was perfect. And why am surprised to get a plate full of French Fries? I wish it hadn't come with a plate of French Fries. What was I expecting? Great place for celebrity spotting, also for people watching. Restaurant has a great buzz. The decor, sort of European. The waiter was French. He was competent. Funny how a French accent makes everything seem OK. This experience made me realize how important that transition is from being a person on the street to becoming the diner.

“Beautiful little restaurant, great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Great little restaurant serving some elegant, yet simple honest French food.
I started with the pate, although this was a little too coarse for my liking, the flavour carried very well and wasn't overbearing like some pate.
For main i had the eye fillet. The French always know how to cook a steak perfectly and this was no exception. The green peppercorn sauce was simple yet perfectly complimentary of the juicy steak.
Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Wouldn't hesitate going back there again.

“A beautiful gem of the real French experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I have been going here for years for breakfast, lunch & dinner. I live & work close by.
This family owned & run place has been a staple of inner city Sydney for the 12 yrs i have been around the area.
The red decor & intimate music & dining reflects the authentic experience.
The menu has changed little over the years & this reflects in the amount of French speaking locals who dine here frequently.
Complimentary drinks whilst waiting for a table are always on offer.
Daniel (RIP) brought this place into its own & is continued by his son Francois & Julie at the helm.
They employ staff that continually are of an ultra standard with smiles & attention that never ever change.
The food from Steak to the snails are consistent & the smells are amazing.
The attention to detail of every single patron is exemplary - i truly cannot fault they ethos of this wonderful restaurant.
Creme Brûlée is to die for - give it a chance & prove me wrong

“above avaerage breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Been going here for years for breakfast but there was a bit if problem last year from which they have bounced back beautifully. Good atmosphere especially if you can one of the street tables. Recommended are the omlettes served with terrific baguettes. Have had a couple of diners there which are good value and more than adequate.
