The Marigold has been providing Sydneysiders including the Chinese Community with excellent Yum Cha for as long as I can remember. Our children who are now grown up remember our weekend family and group gatherings around a very large round table laden with delicacies from the roving waiters and trollies, they all have their favourites. What a lovely way to dine! Yes, there are nearly always queues getting in and out, whether it is on the 5th or the 4th floor (I like the 5th floor restaurant best because of the high cathedral ceiling), but it is all part of the experience. The Maitre D' is careful to seat people at the right size table, and position in the restaurant if you are a regular. We have watched her grow old from being a young slip of a thing in her Chong Sam to a mature woman in a suitably subdued grey suit. We have seen waiters come and go. They have grown used to us prefering Oolong tea to Jasmine. Recently the toilets have been upgraded which is a big plus. You can park downstairs at a discounted rate if you remember to get your parking ticket stamped when you pay your bill. This restaurant is suitable for an intimate lunch for two, a business meeting, through to a family or work event. Small children cope well with the setup and the staff welcome children happily and personally. This restaurant is just across the road from Paddys Market and the rest of China Town, so you can take it from there. With an adequate wine and beer menu, Marigold also has an a la carte menu for evening dining.
