“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Came for my birthday on a Sunday for lunch. Location is great on the water and if you have a boat they have mooring facilities. The food was wonderful and service impeccable as the last time we came some 10 years ago. We had a hot and cold seafood platter which was fresh and the seafood was fresh. Not cheap by any means but worth the splurge every now and again.

“Great food, wonderful view and excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

What a shame more people don't know about this gem. A friend and I were the only people there for lunch on a Wednesday - no wonder it is a bit pricey when their custom at lunch time has fallen off. It was a perfect spot for us to celebrate my friend's birthday though. And they do have a fixed price menu which is more affordable. Maybe they need to target some business and social clubs, Rotary, Lions, Probus etc. to get groups coming for special set price menus.

That said it certainly didn't impact on the quality and presentation of the food, and the service was excellent without any hovering or rush. As one other review mentioned the complimentary canape was under-whelming, so I think they should just forgo that idea completely.

We shared an entree of John Dory with smoked salmon carpaccio presented in wonderful circles and sprinkled with white balsamic pearls. We both agreed we should have ordered two plates because the pearls were a wonderful explosion in the mouth and complemented the seafood perfectly. It was a good size serving, but we wanted more - it was that good.

My mains of grilled John Dory with spinach risotto was perfectly cooked and a huge serving which I couldn't finish. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her oven roasted Barra with warm potato salad, artfully presented in a stack with tiny floral herbs. I've got to stop this review - my mouth is watering too much.

Oh - but the dessert we shared (I wasn't TOO full for that treat) was a delicate vanilla bean creme brulee with a lovely crackle to the caramel and served with a raspberry sorbet.

They also had a good wine selection. What more could you ask for?

“had hoped for more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Great setting beside the Georges River in bushland beside the former Lugarno ferry (closed 1974). Food: Complimentary canapes - less than wonderful. Natural oysters excellent - juicy, plump, tastly, fresh. Killpatrick oysters good. Blue eye cod special with chips & salad was fairly ordinary. Temura onion rings as a side - batter was a bit heavy. Salad swimming in oil. House baked bread was excellent Honeycomb & marshmallow ice cream sandwich on biscuits was great for dessert. On a Sunday night the restaurant was less than half full. The service lacked attentiveness and sparkle. Left us feeling a little flat. $162 for two including a bottle of mineral water + glass of wine each..

“Excellent service and food was top class.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

A group of us dined here a few nights ago to celebrate my sister's birthday. The food was thoroughly enjoyed by us all and while it is on the pricey side, we all left satisfied and happy that we had picked somewhere that still gives excellent service and food which is far more than just barely edible. Will definitely be going back again in the future.

“A Georges River Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Had Sunday lunch here recently, very spur of the moment! Made booking enquiry at 11.40am and by 12.30pm we were enjoying lunch on the covered balcony. We had heard of the restaurant but after 13 years living in the area, had never visited. Began with complimentary salmon mousse on toast, followed by the seafood platter with a glass each of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The platter was generous, fresh and contained some delectable seafood items we had not tasted before. Attentive staff and lovely atmosphere make this a gem on the Georges River.
