“Just Delicious..........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We've been away for two years, but used to come here on business and special occasions, great to see standards, and service are just as good as before and of course the food was excellent. Its never going to feature in the Sydney cheap eats guide but the food quality is hard to fault and still rates as one of the best restaurants in town for us. Fusion Asian food at it' best.
No idea what the deal with the tables is we found plenty of space around our table and couldn't have been happier.

“One of the most memorable evenings of my life...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

I'd read reviews of this restaurant and made an internet booking to secure an outside table several weeks before visiting Sydney. As the evening approach, black clouds rolled up and heavy rain started falling, but our outside table was well protected from the elements.

We decided on a kind of degustation menu, and the fabulous waitress advised us about each course. The very first course was tiny, although delicious, and I was apprehensive about the overall size of the meal. However, each course gradually increased in size until the final dish was close to a half-portion, so my initial fears were dispelled. All the while, we gazed out at the electrical storm flickering over the sea and watched the rain teem down over the inner harbour and Botanical gardens.

Although expensive, China Doll provided an unforgettable evening, thanks to the inventive dishes, marvellous waitress and outstanding location in one of the world's great cities.

I recommend this restaurant whole-heartedly and would return in an instant.

“Over priced!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

We visited this restaurant on New Year's Day 2014 for dinner. We found that the tables were very close together that you could hardly move it appeared that they had tried to pack as many tables in as possible. We were sat outside so the view over parts of Sydney and the marine were good. There was no advice given by the waiter as to portion sizes when we asked we were told that they were just for one person, so we found that we could have probably shared rather than waste the food, on looking round the restaurant as we were leaving that appeared to be what other dinners were doing. The starters were average but the main course was terrible the chicken had red bloody bones running through it and the rice appeared to have been made hours earlier it was so glutinous. A very disappointing end to a brilliant New Year's Day.

“China Doll is a winner in my books”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Our dining experience was great! Our group was a family group including a two year old with a mix of vegetarian diners as well as non veg members. The staff managed this mix very well with knowledgeable advice on the menu, portion sizes, flow of service for the sharing dishes etc. The staff were attentive to our needs but not fussing unnecessarily around us. From my perspective the pork belly was simply fantastic, melting in your mouth and definitely something to return for. Sampling both the veg and non veg dishes, the tofu was a winner as were the zucchini and corn cakes. recommended and well worth it, will be dining again when I can.

“Relaxed fine dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

The location speaks for itself, set on a marina just off the harbour, so there is a bustle about the quayside which adds to the atmosphere.
The menu is both varied and delicious. Don't be afraid to pick and mix the dishes, they are all suitable for sharing, and the staff will serve them at a sensible pace and order, so that you get to enjoy the various tastes without feeling overwhelmed.
Every dish we had was fresh, perfectly spiced and seasoned. Particular favorite were the duck pancakes and the salt and pepper squid.
The staff are excellent, they know about the menu and discreetly steer you away from dishes they think will not suit together. They are attentive and professional.
All round, excellent location for lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.
