Beppis was one of two very very nice restaurants we went to while in Sydney, and while it was the better of the two (the other was The Meat + Wine Co,), it wasn’t perfect — for Italian, the food was pretty amazing, but the service took a long time. Granted, a meal of this caliber should be enjoyed, but the service just seemed to go on a LITTLE too long.
And speaking of service, our server, a VERY old gentleman, seemed to be moving on his last legs. He seemed to forget about us and we constantly had to flag him down for water. On top of that, they lost our reservation (second time it happened to us in Australia), although they were able to seat us right away.
However, the atmosphere and the food more than made up for it. It was our SECOND favorite restaurant of the entire trip. (And that was after eating out for two straight weeks. We should have been sick of eating out.) Plus, the wine was very affordable and we ran into an Australian Pinot Noir that we really enjoyed, Wild South.
If you get a chance to go there, we recommend eating in the wine cellar. While we didn’t get seated there (once again, they even messed up reservation) it’s supposed to be authentic and awesome down there — like a little piece of Italy.
Hit up Beppis. You won’t regret it. And make sure you get seated in the special wine cellar area!
