I took a leisurely stroll down to Woolloomooloo from the Art Gallary, looking forward to a nice lunch on the wharf.
There was a fine selection of restaurants on the wharf but we decided to try Akis since my parents love Indian food.
It was a quiet day, no other customers were there when we arrived around 12pm. We decided to sit inside given that it was quite a hot day. The inside was modern but comfortable.
The lunch menu was quite extensive. We opted for a couple of entrees and mains with naan bread and rice.
For the 3 of us, it was more than enough and we were well satisfied after the meal.
For the entree, we tried their Crab with Iddiappam. It was delicious and perfect as a starter, with its delicate flavours.
The squid was nice and tender but will probably opt for the other entrees next time as it was quite ordinary in flavour.
For one of the mains, the Lamb Martaban was rich and accompanied the naan bread and rice so well. It was a generous serving but I could not get enough of the sauce. Lovely.
The service on the day was friendly and helpful - they explained each dish and were unobtrusive.
It is a "fine dining" restaurant as the prices reflect that - but it was worth it - the produce was fresh and definitely different from your local indian take away.
The location is wonderful and on a weekday - fantastic - as it was not busy.
A great place for that special lunch with family, friends and work colleagues. For that work lunch, you will be able to enjoy within your lunch hour as the food was served up quite quickly if you require this.
I would definitely come back to Akis and am eager to try out their other mains.
