“Amazing time - rooms spacious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2008

We stayed in these apartments at the end of February, just before Sydney Mardi Gras. I have to disagree with all the poor comments below - we had a two bedroom and a one bedroom apartment (ideal as a base for 7 of us - 5 adults and 2 young children) and personally, I thought they were great! Only downside was the lifts, as you had to use your card to get to your floor - not ideal if one apartment was on the 2nd floor and the other was on the 5th (we honestly didn't mind - myself and my friend that was travelling with us were out til late anyways, so this made it ideal not to disturb the rest of my family!)

The apartments had excellent facilities, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, excellent sized fridge freezer, CD player (the two bedroomed apartment had a DVD player - ideal for the kids) - the bedroom was beautiful, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space - shower/bathroom, hairdryer- I thought it was beautiful.

The two bedroomed apartment that the rest of the family had was split over two levels - two bathrooms, great sized kitchen and everything - I would definetly recommend this again, and the next time I'm travelling to Sydney, I would definetly stay there!

Leisure facitilies were lovely - nice sized Gym, jacuzzi (which is a shame because hardly anyone used it!) - swimming pool (all indoor) - sauna, everything you could imagine!

Personally, I think this was a great base for me to visit Sydney - my father had stayed in the Ibis Hotel across the road and found the Goldsborough apartments much more spacious and nicer.

I'll be back!!!

  • Liked — The bedroom - it was like being at home!!
  • Disliked — The lift cards - but that was sorted out before we left!!

Cannot agree more with the comments made by the previous reviewers. The accommodation is not 4.5 stars as advertised. We initially thought that they had booked us into a 3.5 star room by accident, but they confirmed that it was indeed 4.5 stars - the girl at reception wasn't sure how the stars were awarded - certainly not be an authoritive body.
The bathroom was old and dirty, the plastic bath had a big crack and someone attempted to patch it with fibre glass. The smell was incredible and staff just ignored our complaints.
Unfortunately we paid in advance and was forced to stay there for the rest of the duration of our trip, but we will never stay with Oaks again!
Don't waste your money on staying in this dump!

We stayed at the Oaks Goldsborough Hotel last week for 8 days because we were attending a conference at the Sydney Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. Once we were oriented and knew how to use the covered walkover to get to the convention centre and also how to walk to George St, i.e. Woolworths (groceries) and Town Hall train station, we were happy with the location. Darling Harbour is beautiful and great for tourists!
We chose a one bedroom apartment so we could have a kitchen and laundry and eat breakfast and some other meals in the hotel plus do our own laundry. This was great.
The actual hotel is the old Wool Store that has been converted into a hotel so the area walking from the lifts to the rooms didn't look good as it's all open to the floors above and below - see photos - but the rates are reasonable and the rooms are very nice.
Warning: When we first checked in we were allocated a room on the 3rd floor which was right beside a major underpass and the cars were very noisy. We called reception and complained and were quickly moved to the 10th floor which was much better. We heard the same thing happen to another couple and they were also moved. Otherwise everything went very well and we would stay there again because of the location and convenience of having a whole apartment for the price of a hotel room

  • Liked — An aparmtent for the price of a hotel room and the location
  • Disliked — design of the walkways on each floor.

This is essentially a serviced appartment block. My husband and I booked a studio appartment for my husband and I, and were delighted to find we had a very large room with queen bed, kitchen and dining area and small balcony. We had a dishwasher and clothes washing machine and dryer.

We were allocated a 10th floor room which overlooked a rooftop garden of an adjacent apartment block and Sydney beyond it. Lower floors than 9 would not have had the same view. Staff were very helpful, apartment was clean, comfortable and quiet and ideally located with a direct walkway leading to Darling Harbour and mono-rail station.

We stayed for 2 nights but would have been happy to have stayed for much longer. Excellent value for money and I cannot recommend it too highly. A complimentary shuttle bus from the airport takes you direct to the front door.

We are presently here and can't get out of it! We were shown a room in the Penthouse and told that we would get one of similar standard. When we checked in we were given a totally different room of very poor standard. As it was late we could not get anywhere else. We were told that we would have 30 mins to find someother hotel otherwise they would have to charge us for the night. When we got to our room a cockroach was the first thing that greeted us and on reporting it the staff said that this is a regular occurance. Here now for two nights but trying to find second night elsewhere if possible to avoid this hell as the place looks like a prison.

My stay at the Oaks Goldsbrough was enjoyable, mainly due to the great location that it is in. Only a five minute walk to Darling Harbour, where great food, great shopping and great sights are aplenty! Although it should be mentioned that the five minute walk does include many stairs, so it isn't disabled and children friendly as such.

Just out side of the complex is the Sydney Monorail. It takes you to all the major stops in the city centre including Pitt Street Mall, Paddy's markets, Darling Harbour and the Convention Centre just to name a few.

I stayed in a two bedroom apartment on the top floor with my family for three nights. The rooms were spacious and we had a lovely view of Darling harbour and city. The bathrooms were a little dated and not as clean as they could of been. The shower leaked the whole time we were there. As I'm not a fan of heights, I wasn't too keen on the small wooden walkways connecting the rooms.

When we first arrived we were unable to check in even though it was well and truely after their designated check in time. Front desk and reception were quite rude the whole stay. The extra bed which we had requested prior to arrival had not been organised and it took a number of phone calls to reception to even get a response.

Like other travellers have said there is no room service at Goldsbrough, instead you can get food delivered to your apartment. Concierge was very helpful in regards to this and even recommended some really nice places. Reception and the Conceirge were like chalk and cheese. Concierge was extremely friendly and nothing was too much of an effort for him.

All in all it was a good place to be based at while in Sydney!
