“Mantra On Kent, Sydney”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Stayed at Mantra On Kent in September. I booked this hotel due to its closeness to Darling Harbour & it proved to be ideally placed. Its literally only around the corner from the pedestrian overpass which takes you into the heart of Darling Harbor. We arrived early & the staff were very helpful in booking us in and storing our luggage whilst we went of to explore Sydney. We stayed in an executive room and found it fantastic, very modern, clean & well appointed. The room had a kitchen for those contemplating a longer stay & a Wilson’s car park right next door making parking very accessible. I would stay at this property again & strongly recommend it.

Stayed at the Mantra on Kent for two nights in a deluxe apartment. Got an amazing deal on wotif - $150 a night for a deluxe apartment, free bottle of wine and 1pm checkout. For Sydney, we were pretty stoked to have nabbed that deal! We were given a great modern room on the 21st floor with a view of darling harbour. Semi blocked by a hotel, who cares, we weren't expecting a view at all so it was pretty amazing! The apartment had a washing machine, dryer, oven, microwave, all the essentials! Super comfy bed and massive shower with awesome water pressure. The location was perfect. A five minute walk to darling harbour and five minute walk to the QVB and woolies. Only one very minor negative, the apartment didn't have any windows or a balcony so there was no fresh air. Although I would say this is quite common for the city. Would stay here again though in a heartbeat.

Recently stayed at Mantra on Kent. I stay exclusively at Mantra properties all over Australia. The outstanding feature here, was the friendliness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they seemed to take a genuine interest in what we were doing and where we had been. Well done !!

I stayed in the larger 1 bedroom places and it was very nice and spacious. The rooms are not old, however are not perfect. There are a few imperfections, such as cracked cupboards, poorly built shower/baths and awkward cupboards. It would be good to have a TV in view of the bed as well as the one in the living area. The staff is very helpful and the location is great if you want to be by Darling Harbour or the shopping in the city (close to Wesfield and QV).

Room Tip: High floor on the North side, with a view of Darling Harbour

Mantra on Kent is in a fabulous location 5 mins from Town Hall and the QVB and right by the bridge that takes you to Darling Harbour. This is my second stay here. The first was while the renovations were taking place and now once they have been finished.

I have to say the highlight of the trip was the fantastic front desk staff. They were friendly, helpful and always had a smile. Rooms were cleaned and items replenished but we did find it a little weird that you don't get a hand towel (only a bath towel each and bath mat) and only toiletries for one person.

I have had stayed in a one bedroom and one bedroom delux and have to say that I prefered the one bedroom without a balcony as it seemed to be a little bigger and the bathroom was more modern(only a shower) but the delux had a bath with shower curtain and a very high step in which my mum who has new knees found a little difficult to negotiate. We also found the air conditioner was very chilly and even turning it up had little effect. The room at night was quiet and we rarely heard noise from the street just the obligatory banging of doors from other rooms. Which didn't worry us.

Also as we got a twin room was little disappointed to see that one of the beds only had an old looking blanket in the cover and the other had the king doona doubled over which made it a little hot. It might be a good idea to invest in some King single doonas for twin requests. Not sure why the TVs don't get all the free to air channels (even though you most likely won't be watching much) for those rainy or lazy days it would be great to have more options.

The bonus of having a washer and dryer was great. The kitchen was adequate if you wanted to stay in one night. My mum did have breakfast one morning in the restaurant and was more than happy with what she got for the price.

We got a great deal on rates and not sure if we would pay the full amount but really you are paying for the location. We would definetly stay again if we could get another great deal.

Great location, beautifully renovated, great size apartments with everything you need. We stayed here for two nights and re-booked the following week and we were upgraded, which was a lovely welcome back. Staff are fantastic. Highly recommend and will continue to stay here.

Best things are:
1. Location is excellent. It's close to a lot of CBD attractions, yet it's in a reasonably quiet part of town.
2. The rooms have had a recent freshen up with new paint and carpet
3. Rooms are a good size and clean
4. Windows can be opened for fresh air
5. There's a kitchen (oven didn't work, but we had no need for it) and laundry facilities (which is great for longer stay)
6. Love the lemongrass? soap
7. Friendly helpful front desk
8. Free newspaper at reception

Little annoyances:
1. Can't open window in bathroom, so mirror steams up
2. Small TV and poor selection of channels
3. No free wifi
4. Not much of a view, but this is central Sydney

Overall, advantage of this property is its excellent location rather than a luxurious room with a view.
