Owner description: Located by the Royal Botanic Gardens, the bench known as Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was carved out of sandstone in the early 1800s for Govenor Lachlan Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth. It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

“Great spot for photos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

This is a great spot to go for photos of the harbour, bridge and Opera House. It is also an historical location. It's a nice walk from the Opera House through the Botanic Gardens.

“Good place to visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

There was nothing unusual about the place, but the sea views and Opera house adjacent to this place with the Bridge in backdrop makes this place a worthy of visit. Also nice to visit for couples in search of solitude. Pretty romantic!

“She knew a good thing when she saw it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

The wife of Governor Macquarie chose this spot which overlooks Sydney Harbour to rest, relax and re-invigorate. You will, too.

“Best place to see both Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Mrs Macquarie's Chair is THE place to be when you are in Sydney.

Forget about getting up close and personal with Sydney Harbour Bridge or Sydney Opera House when you can get to see both of them in this place!

On NYE, don't even think about getting in if you are not here before noon!

“The perfect place for a chair”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

This is one of the best viewing spots for the harbour there is. Great on New Years Eve and recently a production of an opera was performed here at night on a floating stage. Remarkable!
