“Beautiful picturesque walk for free”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

My husband and I enjoyed strolling along the shore looking at the Opera House and then walking into the Botanical Gardens. The birds were fascinating, flowers were beautiful and we found many spots for great pictures. On the way back we stoped for Oysters along the Quay. Awesome day.

“Beautiful”

A must if visiting Sydney. You can walk up to the Art Gallery and have a look there or there is a nice cafe nearby at Lady Maquarie's chair

“Substantial walk, but the beautiful views make it worthwhile.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2012

If you are a super walker and happy to walk even longer, the ideal walk would be from Museum or St James train station through Hyde Park and continue in a straight line past Sydney Hospital (beautiful sandstone buildings), the State Library, past the Conservatorium of Music, to the Botanical Gardens to the Opera House and around Circular Quay. I would probably allow most of a day to do this walk and include lunch along the way and enjoy the scenery, though, depending on the pace, some people do this run in their lunch break. There is lots to see, in the first section of Hyde Park you will see parts of Kings Cross (East) and the shopping district (West). Once you have passed Hyde Park, Pitt Street Mall is West and has many shops and places to eat. Sydney Hospital and the State Library is near Martin Place and is more luxury shopping (think Tiffany's, Burberry etc.) and a business area. The Con is East if you continue in a straight line along Elizabeth Street and is quite unusual looking, as it resembles a castle which leads into the Botanical Gardens. Once at the Opera house, there is uninterrupted views of the harbour which is lovely and many of the ferries and boats can be seen from here. If you walk back along Circular Quay towards the train station, you can see the Harbour Bridge, Luna Park there are high quality, expensive eateries along this area also. Highly recommended for tourists who want to see a little bit of everything.
