“Grubby”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

There is something underwhelming and municipal about Sydney's Town Hall. Unlike it's European and even American city counterparts, it is dominated by the buildings around it without an imposing forecourt is lost on George Street. The inside does not make you go all prickly with admiration for history's great artisans and craftsman, but looks ostensibly to be what it is a council building run by small minded bureaucrats. If you've been to Paris, London or even seen Boston's Old State House, then you will not derive much from a peek inside this town hall.

People used to meet outside the Town Hall. There used to be free concerts on Sundays many years ago. I don't know if they are still held there.

If you're interested in Sydney's Victorian architecture, then this magnificent sandstone building is a must see. Once nicknamed The Wedding Cake Building, its ornate carvings and beautiful stained glass windows are unique as is the spectacular pipe organ.

The Sydney Town Hall is an icon of the city, yes it has a number of places of interest within its walls, but there was a lack of intormation available at the time.
