“Family Trip to Sydney 2012”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Our stay was in mid-November 2012 for 3 nights during the Sydney portion of our Australian trip. We had 4 adults and 2 kids (8 & 10) sharing three different rooms on the same floor, and were very pleased with our accommodations. The location is unbeatable, within walking distance to too many amenities to mention and right along the free-bus route. The staff was incredible - friendly, helpful and welcoming. Many of the staff worked at the restaurant and bar, so we got to know them a bit, and they gave us wonderful advise on things to do within the CBD. The hotel was definitely "old school" - the elevator being from the mid-19th century, but it was charming. The rooms were nice sized, and for a family of 6, this hotel was had at an incredible value, given the cost of everything else available. The accommodations were clean and tidy. We could not have expected anything more at this price-point. We had two of our three dinners in the attached restaurant, and would also recommend that as well due to the value for what you get. We will be staying here again on our next visit to Sydney.

Room Tip: The normal travel engines (Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc) do not have this hotel come up on...

What else to say? Town train station just opposite the hotel, woolworth supermarket just next door so convinient to top up our supply of water, bread etc. Darling harbour ten minutes away on foot, Opera house 20mins, Hyde park and Westfield five mins only... I can't be more grateful for this superb location. After a long day walk around the city, to know that u are less than hour to reach your room was a bless! The room was clean, nice size for two adult plus baby. Definitely stay here again! Thanks Luke for a wonderful stay! ;)

Had dinner for two for a reasonable $67 - 6 x oyster kilpatrick $12, 2x eye fillet 200 gram $15 ea + garlic bread & mash, glass of wine $5 + beer. Beef was very nice, service attentive & friendly without being overbearing. Good wine list.

I spent a lot of time searching for a reasonablly priced hotel in Sydney and picked Hotel Coronation after reading Trip Advisor recommendation as budget deal. My room was comfortable, quiet and clean. Actually was surprised the bathroom was larger than expected as I thought this would be small like a London hotel deal! Luke at the reception was great - so friendly and helpful. He booked my shuttle to the airport, gave directions, advice and always had a smile or something funny to say. When you are doing budget, that is exactly the kind of extra front desk attention that earns your hotel big points. Thank you LUKE!
Woolworth's is right next door so I just picked up some cereal and milk and had breakfast in room. There is small fridge to keep your stuff. There is no internet but again Woolworth's has a huge internet center and it was a reasonable price - $5 for a 100 minutes I think. You were close enough to everything whether you wanted to walk or take public transportation. Remember it's a budget hotel - were there towels yes, were they soft and fluffy - no - if you keep this in mind, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Coronation is a really clean, tidy 'old-school' hotel in the centre of Sydney. All the big central attractions are a short walk away - even Circular Quay is only 15mins down the street. The rooms are small and basic, but clean and tidy. The bathroom was immaculate. The price is very good and the attached bar and restaurant serve cheap food and beer. What more does one need?! The hotel's other best asset is the staff - friendly, very helpful and welcoming. I enjoyed my stay and will return on my next Sydney trip.

I got this hotel off TripAdvisor following the rave reviews it received. I'm glad about it cuz this hotel was a gem.

While the room was really small and the bed was a little uncomfortable (we could feel the springs), the location and price for this hotel is perfect. It's definitely one of the cheapest we've found (AUD109 nett per night) and we were so surprised that we could walk to Paddy's, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and the Sydney Opera House! Luke at the reception was a really friendly and funny guy so he'll help you if you need directions on how to get to a particular attraction.

It gets a little noisy if you're facing the road so if you can sleep through noise, this is the place for you. My suggestion is don't eat at the hotel restaurant (it wasn't that good) and follow the hotel's advice on going to Jet Cafe for breakfast (across the road, at QVB just behind the statue of Queen Victoria). The breakfast there is lovely. :)

Room Tip: Rooms 02 and 03 face the main road, so you'll be able to hear everything from drunkards shouting...

The location of the hotel is perfect! It's right beside Woolworths (big grocery store) and Town Hall station. From Town hall station, just two stops to Circular quay. You can also walk from the hotel to Circular Quay, Paddy's Market, St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Andrew's Cathedral if you're into walking. Lots of shops around the hotel. Very near to Queen Victoria Building (high end shops). There's Mcdonalds, Gloria jeans, food courts on mall near the hotel.

About the hotel, the elevator is not user friendly. They need to upgrade. When we checked in, we have to carry our luggage to 3rd floor as the elevator is not working!

The hotel reception area is very narrow hallway. The stairways are dark. The room is small. Bed is okay. Just the basic TV channels. Anyway, the room is okay since we spent all day around Sydney and we only need a room where we can sleep comfortably and our own bathroom for the price of $109/night.

Towels and amenities are provided. They clean the room everyday, but in our case, we only asked them to clean it on our 3rd day.

Cons: Not sound proof. Can hear the noise outside. Curtains can cover the whole window. It's a little bright, especially at 5:30am.

We will definitely stay here again!
